removing a background adding alpha to background

Recommended Posts

Have a try at the following tutorial, Kitten Vacano: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4841

With this, you can isolate the background and remove it. As for 'alpha', I'm aware of what it is, but not how you want to use it. If you want the background to be fully transparent (an alpha value of 0), then the deletion will do this for you, as deleting an area leaves it completely transparent.

If, on the other hand, you want a certain alpha value (say, 32, for example), I would create a new layer, move it to the bottom, and fill this layer with the Fill Bucket tool with the colour set to the alpha value of your choice.

Flatten the layers as necessary.

Does this help you somewhat?
