Rounded Rectangles

Hey can anyone tell me the last step of making a rounded rectangle? I always end up with a rounded rectangle IN a rectangle. I want to know how I can make the corners transparent.

Example of what I did

open your picture

add a transparent layer

draw your rounded rectangle on the transparent layer.

clik inside that rectangle

now move down to your picture layer

control i

hit the sissors button.

now move back up to the layer where you drew the rounded rectangle and hit the x box on your layers box. (get rid of it)

if you have checkerboard pattern outside your picture in rectangular shape that's what you want. save as a .png image then that squared portion around your picture is transparent.
