I'm trying to erase a white background on an image to superimpose it as a transparent layer on top of another image, but the eraser tool isn't erasing it. The tool appears to erase it, but once I save the new image the white background returns. Please help.

Hello Patrick and welcome to the forum.   ;)

You must to save as PNG to preserve transparency.
