Okay, so, I'm working on a magazine cover design for a school project, and I was wondering if it was possible to edit a picture like this and make sparks come from the tip?

When I get down to the last step, and merge all the layers, my background isn't black anymore, it becomes the cloud layer. So, do you mean just merge the cloud layer and text layer, or all three like I've been doing? Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out, sorry for the trouble.
