  1. Hello, This one may be of interest to BoltBait, or one of the other geniuses out there; perhaps it's of no interest whatsovever. I'm creating a video comprised of, mostly, a whole lot of still images. Parts of these images are repeated many times. It occured to me that it would be quite handy if a selected area could be stored for quick retieval. My initial idea is to have a row in the tool bar with a small box that a selcted area could be dragged into with a small icon that can be viewed larger by hovering the mouse over it. Also, when the box is occupied a new box appears beside it ready for the next selection to be stored in. Then, just dragging or clicking a box copies that to the current layer. There could also be a facility to delete that  box if no longer required.

I can see how this could get messy because these storage boxes would need to have a facility to transfer to a new project. (In my case the next still image in the the video.) So perhaps there could be a question when opening a different or new image to transfer these boxes into it; perhaps in the form of "Do you want to copy saved selections into this project?" Other mess would be copy from last project or all projects or even selected projects. Maybe there should also be a project grouping system.

Well, it's just an idea. I'm not a software developer although I come from a computer background, so I realise that there would be a lot of work but also that it is probably possible. I would like to add that I love Paint.Net because it is easy to use and the learning curve isn't too taxing. I wish it were a Vector Graphics app for the only reason of enlargement. I know there is always Inkscape but that's difficult to learn and functions that are used between that and Paint.Net are done in different ways leading to mistakes. If I want to enlarge something I sometimes copy it into Inkscape enlarge it, use SnippintgTool to copy it and transfer that into my Paint.Net project. Bit long winded but it works for me. Well, that's all beside the point and a digression.

    That's it, really.

  2. Actually, the size of the layers is irrelevant to this matter. The whole issue revolves around scrolling the canvas using the scroll bars at the right hand side and the bottom. Using these scroll bars is not easy in order to get the canvas into a specific position in the window. But given that we seem to be having some difficulty understanding what I'm saying I must suppose that using the scroll bars is the only way to adjust the position of the canvas.

  3. Hiya Ego

Your solution moves the current layer around the canvas, but it's the canvas position itself within the window that I want to move in an accurate way. Remember I said in my post that I want a more accurate way of shifting the canvas than the scroll bars at the side and bottom.

  4. Hi all

When starting a new project the canvas is always centered within the window. I'm creating a video comprised of lots of individual still pictures, in the same way as cartoonists do, by creating slightly different pictures on seperate layers. Sometimes the canvas gets moved for various reasons which results in it being in different positions  on different layers. Is there a way of shifting the canvas around in a more precise way than using the scroll bars on the bottom and side? Currently, I'm using the edges of two pieces of postit pages as refences but it's quite tricky to move the canvas in a very precise manner, similar to the way of using the left/right/up/down keys on a selected area.

  5. Hello forum gurus, I have a short video consisting of just 54 frames. I've converted these frames to .jpg using a free video to jpg converter. I needed this in order to edit each frame in Paint.Net. I need to now export these frames back as a video. Of course, there are no video editors that can process .pdn files. What I plan is to convert each frame to .png (to preserve tranparency) and import them into my video editor. My question is: does anyone know of a program that can do this in a batch rather than opening each .pdn image in Paint.Net and saving it as .png? Any other common format would also propably work as long as transparency is preserved.

  6. Hi HiRez

I'm sorry about that misunderstanding. Actually, Both of the images have been created, from scratch in Paint.Net, so they are .pdn files. It's not really relevant, but just for clarification, the first image is a schematic circuit diagram for a project I'm building and the second is a pcb layout for it. So I want to be able to print them together on a single sheet and tidy the whole thing up when it's finished and flatten into a .jpg or .png.

Thanks to Ardneh for your suggestion. That sounds like a solution. I'll give it a try.

    Best regards

  7. Hello Reptillion

I am not at all familiar with Photoshop and I've never even heard of Krita so I'm ignorant of this expression. I'm sorry but I don't know how I can explain what I'm attempting other than the description I've already given; except to say I have two separate images that I want to make into one. However, because neither image is yet complete I need to edit both when they are in one image, maintaining all layers of both. If that helps.

  8. Hi HyReZ

Thanks for that info. I had read that solution before and it works except that the image I import is superimposed on the image that's already there. I've tried altering the Anchor point in Canvas Resize but nothing is shifting. At first glance it seems that I would have to shift each of the imported layers one-by-one which involves a lot of re-aligning. Is this what you expect?

If I were to enlarge the canvas on one or both images first and place the 2nd image in a blank area first, I would still have to realign each layer of the 2nd image before I export it to the 1st layer.

Thanks also to Ego, Rick, Midora and Kamikase for your input.

  9. Hello All

I know this question has been asked before but the only answers I've seen date from 2014 and I think there may be a nice solution by now - perhaps in the later versions or as a plugin.

I have two images each containing two or more layers which I want to make into one image retaining all the layer structure of each. I realize that two layers cannot have the same name so it doesn't matter if they are given new names. What would also be nice was if a selection of layers could be copied into another image.

Can this be done - yet, please.

  10. Hi All

I was never bothered about size before, I just hacked around. But now I have a need for making a project of a specific size. So I set my canvas at 12 X 12 cm at a res of 96dpi. OK so far. When I view the canvas, though, it only measures 11.5 cm against the ruler. Am I going doo-lally? or is something else going on here? This is confusing me a bit. (Not very difficult to do at the best of times.)

  11. Hello Moderators

I'm having trouble navigating the forum. I posted a question earlier today but I cannot find how to see my posts and replies. So, if you reply to this within the forum I won't know how to see it. That's what I call Catch22. Therefore, could you please send instructions to me via my email address. I must be going titsy-loo-loo or something unless the forum format is obtuse. Actually, Come to think of it, I can't see anybody's posts.

I'm sorry if this is inconvenient.

  12. I've tried on a beefier computer and it works just fine. So I'll just have to figure out what's wrong with the laptop. This is the plugin I've been needing for a while. Don't know why I didn't find it before. For me, the main advantage is the ability to easily print the exact size of the image.

    Give Martin a medal

  13. Has anyone had problems with Print It running slowly? Each operation in it seems to take ages; maybe 1 whole minute to do something such as selecting a tab or a setting. Now I'm a retired old giffer and have plenty of time but even I find this frustrating. I bet it's just me or my PC (an Acer Aspire One running Win7). Any ideas?

@PlainoldTony, please take 30 seconds to look at the source contents of the .svg file. You will easily noticed that the "inner layer" is not like the others (it has something extra).  Removing that difference solves the issue.

But like the others have said, it's best to just use Inkscape or just use paint.net; not both for the same project.

    Hello Toe_Head2001

These contributors names get more and more bizarre. Still, I suppose yours has some significance to you and those who know you. Thank you for your most informative reply. I remain somewhat perplexed as I cannot see how you have accessed this information. Admittedly, I'm not very experienced with drawing programs. I've looked in Object Properties and Document properties but cannot see the level of data that you have shown to me. Perhaps you would be so kind as to give me some further help by describing how to access this settings/data level.

You are probably right in suggesting that I only use one application for each project, but each does have advantages over the other. Two examples I can say are: Paint.net's colour fill is easier to use, while Inkscape's zoom function is nicer by not magnifying the pixels. Anyhow, thanks for your assistance.

  15. Hello Iron67

Many thanks for your quick reply. I attach the transferred .svg and the Inkscape .tar files so that you can open them yourself. As th filename might suggest, this is not the first version of this image that I have created. It's OK in Inkscape. Take a look. I'm sure you will solve this easily or it won't even go wrong for you, but it illudes me.

    Regards
