  1. Your "directory tree and main folders" post is unclear to me. Any effect plugin .dll files not directly inside the Effects folder can't be expected to work. Sarkut The first part of my post was what I found, after I downloaded and unzipped Boltbait's latest plug-ins. The directory tree is c\:Program Files\Paint.Net\Effects\ then a list of .dlls including burninate.dll (basically all the .dlls in Boltbaits latest plug in). So they appear to be there and stored in the Effects folder. The second part of the post was happened when I opened up the main Paint program and clicked on Effects - ie I got a drop down menu with the options I listed. This looks like the standard set of options. I could not see how or where, if anywhere, it had been updated with Boltbait's plug ins. For example how would I access burninate? Honeyrose
  2. This is my version (on the Help screen about panel) Paint.NET v3.5.4 (Final Release build 3.54.3708.31975) Copyright © 2010 dotPDN LLC, Rick Brewster, and contributors. Portions Copyright © Microsoft Corporation. All Rights Reserved. This is the version you get if you go to Paint.Net as of now (April 8th) to download it. Are you saying that Baitbolt's plug ins don't work with it?
  3. I am a newbie so have what I assume is the most uptodate version of GetPaint which I downloaded a few days ago (around 2 April). Yesterday I downloaded Boltbaits plug-ins (7 April). They are not working for me. Here is directory tree and main folders C:\Program files \ PAINT.Net \Effects \PAINTNET.3.5.4Install \ Burninate.dll \ColorBalance.dll \etc < all the other .dlls on Boltbaits latest release are shown in the Effects folder here as .dlls> When I open Paint and select Effects, this is what comes up on the Pull down Menu Artistic Blurs Distort Noise Object Photo Redo Style Flip Horizontal Flip Vertical So no sign of things like Burninate for example or Threshold either for that matter. I am running XP Pro latest release. Any suggestions
  4. That's pretty much what I did and it didn't work - see original post
  5. Hi again I downloaded Boltbaits latest plug-ins into Paint/Effects on my Program files but I can't get them to work. When I try to use one of these it first of all asks what application to use to open it so I say Paint and then I get an error message "This is not a valid bitmap file or its format is not currently supported". (And yes I did unzip them). Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
  6. Struggling a bit with drawing round a curve (my cut out object has several curves). I am using the line/curve tool but can't seem to quite get the hang of creating and manipulating points on a stretch of line to make it into a curve. Instead I am getting a series of small steps. Is there another tool or technique I should be using?
  7. Back again./ Thanks for the tip on using F7 to expose the layers pull down panel. I have another related question, I have been following a video tutorial on cutting and pasting images onto another background. The tutorial demonstrates using icons in a tool bar along the bottom of the screen - for example an icon which is two small squares, one above the other linked by a +. I don't have any of these icons on my screen. Do I need to tweek my version of paint.net to get more of these icons visible. I just downloaded the main recommended option of paint.Net. The Removing Tricky Backgrounds tut recommends using the Threshold plug in. Where would I find this? Honeyrose J
  8. Pyrochild: what did i do am I being shouted at. I am only a newbie.
  9. sorry i updated this above but my pc crashed while I was doing it and I thought it had failed and posted question again here. Have now deleted it.
  10. I hope this is the right place to post this - apologies if it is not. I only still a newbie at this. I was advised in an earlier posting to "Removing Tricky Backgrounds" for a technique on removing tricky backgrounds and superimposing images. I went to the link given which starts with instructions to duplicate the image I want to superimpse and then says to uncheck the original background so it is not longer visible. The instructions then display a table called Layers which shows three layers, called Theshold, BG Delete and Background, with the first two ticked. How do I find and manipulate this table for layers? I cannot find any option on my version of Paint.Net except one which displays only the properties of the current layer? Do I need to load the advanced version of Paint.Net or install a Plug in? If so can someone point me towards it. Thanks Honeyrose
  11. sorry have i been posting in the wrong place? i just followed the links as advised when the tutorial i selected turned out to be a dead link. this is general discussions isn\'t it? did my query start out somewhere else and get moved here?
  12. Phew a lot to take in especially for someone struggling to get their head around layer handling. Still I"ll give it a go and report back.
  13. Hi everyone, I am new here so please be gentle with me. What I want to do is to take an image I have cut out from its background using paint (so hopefully with a transparent background) and paste it onto another background (in this case a cliff) and then render the whole thing to look like a drawing or painting. Then add some wording in the sky. Any suggestions? Honeyrose
  14. Hi there from a newbi. What I need to do is to basically crop out the bottom half of my image (and discard). I am struggling to do this with the cropping tool, it seems to only allow me to crop a proportionate image. As fast as I change the size parameters (I suppose that is the way to do it?) it reinstates the constrain proportionality tick. So I did a search on the forum and found the post below, dated last month, from one of the moderators. It seemed to show what I wanted under the link Cutting out images. Only the link does not work. Anyone care to help out. Honeyrose "If you want to crop the sides, select the part you want to keep with the rectangle selection tool and then hit CTRL + Shift + X If you want to remove part of the image, check out this tutorial: Cutting out images. If you want to remove part of the image and fill in the hole that is left, you'll need the Clone Stamp tool or this plugin: Fill Gaps 1.0 Hope this helps. " From one
