But, you can use layers, thats the advantage of pdn over MS paint, when using pixelart.
I use layers to separate different parts of a pixel art image... Like letters in a word or added parts to a building. I try to do the coloring the old fashioned way though.... feels like I'm doing it more traditionally.
-
Or, open a new layer and draw a black pixel on top, then adjust the opacity. Cheating? I don't think so.
Actually, you aren't supposed to use anything other than the pencil tool. I just change the v (I can't for the life of my remember what it stands for out of HSV I know hue and saturation tho) by about -20 for a darker color or 20 for a lighter and trace the previous lines....
-
Mostly, I would say using plugins to make a image, like my space picture for example, takes skill too, but it takes more brain power as in what effect would do what to the picture, while in pixel art, you need to have patience, math skills for big projects, common sense, and a good understanding of colors, and what they look like at a big scale.
Exactly. Plugins run effects, while pixel art, it's all you. You want a color darker? open up your color wheel and get to work! hahaha
-
yeah because instead of making a big pic your doing each pixel one at a time
It takes skill (on more intricate projects especially) and planning so your colors and lines match up. MUCH harder than letting pugins do all the work....

Once I get more experience in this, Im going to make a tutorial. Heck, they should make a whole new tut section for pixel art.
They should! or atleast a kind of sub-forum kinda thing. Pixel art is a whole new kind of art form.... You gotta actually do it pixel by pixel w/ no special tools!
-
Wow, thats amazing.... Must... read... more....
Thats my second attempt, Im going to turn it into a much bigger piece.
you read the ENTIRE comic already? there's four episodes with a ton of panels in each.... it took me a few days...
-
What is that? mind linking me?
so time consuming... but addicting!
my first attempt, using nothing but the pencil tool.
Are we allowed to use the fill bucket? because that would help a lot.
I really want to get into this, you shall now refer to me as the pixel art king!
It is only the greatest comic of all time, but beware: it is addicting and... still not finished...

This originated as this bunch of flowers... When I finish a matching avvie it'll replace my temp (vvv) one.
Edit:
Avvie!
-
I'm almost positive this fits here....
It started as a single wood texture (the surrounding image of untouched wood). I used a photoshop tut for the idea but its 100% PdN! I call it Wood Carving

You might want to try starting on a large scale, not resizing the screenshots at all. When you are completely finished with the image and have done the rotate/zoom, then resize to a size you like. It will keep the integrity of the image better than a zoom on each screenshot individually.
-
No need to 'SCREAM' I think you broke two rules in the very title... plus, that's kinda the point of the image hospital... Try reposting it there for help on it...

what the doozey?
Hahaha
Also, I actually thought the rose was real at first.. XD Amazing.
-
I know! I have it bookmarked on my iTouch so I can keep checking it! Poor Hechter is still stuck in the pit...
I love the opening of the War of Fate
-
Good!
but is the green intentional?
-
Nice to see that the pixel art scene is warming up - it's my favourite style.
Mine too. I got into it after reading AMD up to the last part the author made (its STILL not finished )
-
Not on this apparently! XD
I just never read histories of stuff...
-
PdN was a college project?
-
No XD i was just making a square, then just started adding stuff until it turned to that then I saw a 'd' in it and it's my first intial... lol
-
Links go off site... they most likely carry more information than a bold.
-
Make a seperate folder to store the brushes you're not using. Otherwise it really bogs down Smudge and the Custom Brushes plugin.... And they disappear if you update.
Do the same with plugins.... This way they don't all go *whoosh-bye bye acculmilated brushes and plugins* I learned the hard way....
-
Honestly, I think it's more about what the site can handle than spammers or being annoying....
-
My newest pixel art... followed the cube tut then used it for shapes... only used 11 colors but 3 hues....
-
Not exactly a photo, but I made this for my bro... Who doesn't want it... But anyway, it's kinda like a 'super pencil sketch,' as I call it, of something from halo. The one that looks lighter is the mod, the more colorful one is the orig.
Edit: this one is actually from a picture... it's of Eva Longoria... It almost looks like the ink sketch but still more pencil-y. It's kinda obvious which is real
-
hahaha this is harder than it looks. I read a whole comic series of pixel art (AMD) and I can't believe how long that would have to take... here's my feeble first attempt
It's only 50x50 at 96 p/i, but my dad is daring me to try a 1080 p/i  That would be really, really hard.
Edit:
He's cheering my first animated pixel art... him!
sunglasses!

Yeah, but I'd say put it in the Overflow... and it should be about a certain thing so it's not a bunch of random pixel arts.
