I had very serious problems with Paint.net crashing. It meant I had to save everything as I did it, otherwise there was a risk of losing the changes. I cured it by cleaning up the registry and memory files with AML Registry Cleaner. Brilliant freebie, obtainable here http://www.artus-fh.co.uk/source/Freebies%20Page.html
Had no trouble since.
Worth a try.

Thanks a lot. Got it sorted, now.

I'm not very hot on these things. How do I access the effects folder?

Very tactfully worded. It's nice to encounter courteous people.

Thanks for the interest. At the moment, I am editing a series of old maps and prefer the opacity to be set at around the 200 in order that the typeface blends with the original. Just a bit time-consuming when I have to repeatedly adjust the setting after each save.
-
When layering, the opacity is set at 255 by default. Is it possible to preset this to a different number to eliminate the need to adjust the setting each time I use the facility?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for solving my problem.
I was a military interpreter in an earlier life.

Spot on, Oma. It was the file name that caused the problem.
Many thanks.
By the way, are you by any chance German. Just asking, as Oma is German for Granny.

Sorry, I wasn't explicit enough. All saved images are in Windows Paint (which comes with Windows) format, not PNG or Jpeg as requested when I save.
I have tried reinstalling Paint.net, without success.
-
I don't know whether I am doing something silly, or if this is a bug, but, suddenly, when I try to save a cropped image as 'Save As', it is saved in a format that can only be accessed in Windows Paint. I am running version 3.36 with Windows XP.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Many thanks. Save me a bit of time.

I do a lot of work on large files for my website, but because the maximum file upload size is 2mb I have to upload them in sections. When cropping a document into, say, two sections and saving half the cropped image with 'Save As', is it possible to preserve both halves of the work without having to repeat the process?
Thanks in advance.

Paint.net has transformed my life. I do a lot of work with maps, and I have never experienced anything quite like it. I love it. So much so, that I have a link on the Freebies page of my website www.artus-fh.co.uk
Any recommendations or criticisms (constructive, of course) welcome.

Really helpful. I have now finally mastered it. Thanks to all for the advice. A superb program.
-
Welll, the first time I used the method it was a success, but now I seem to be removing a piece of the background along with the text. What can I be doing wrong?
Thanks again.

Many thanks. I'll give it a whirl later.

I want to replace some of the text on an old map, as it is becoming illegible. However, I am having difficulty in angling the words. I am using layering, but when I rotate the layer the text moves away from the original typing point. Is it possible to rotate the words in situ?
I can carry out the operation using Roxio, but the results are nowhere near as good. The characters are ragged.
I am new to Paint.net, by the way, but I love it.

Glad you found some use for it. I use the program constantly. The disk cleanup facility is also good. Gets rid of old temporary internet files etc. I don't use the cookie section, as that can sometimes cause inconvenience with logging onto regular sites. Be interesting to see what the cause of your problem is when you resolve it.
