  1. I don't know. It just doesn't feel right, being in Render.

As long as the plugin was done in codelab, it is enough just sharing the source code. So everyone with codelab can put it wherever she/he wants it to be.

This would be the easiest solution, I think.

  2. I can screenshot the flare effect from illustrator, for reference, if you want...

    Yes thanks...

'kay...itlss be tommorrow AM...don't have it at home.

I downloaded GIMP due to personal interest. It came with two lens flare effects an i made a few pics of them. I don't know if they are useful, but I'll share them now.

    The normal lens flare:

    It looks pretty realistic.

The second one is called "GFlare" and provides a lot of options. You can use it to render an alternative lens flare or to do things that look close to MadJik's images above.

Now I will show you how it looks using both of them not on a black background. So i got a pic of a weird creature from a short youtube-clip.

And finally GFlare, using other settings:

    :? Hope it helps :?

After spending time with GIMP I gained deep understanding why there are attempts to port PDN to Linux. The only purpose of this UI seems to be to drive people crazy enough to look like the strange being above.

  3. Yeah, I've seen this before... And it still looks so complicated to me

But thanks anyway, I will see how far I come. The problem is I have almost no time... :?

EDIT: I provided some pictures of GIMP's lens flare abilities in the Effects API thread MadJik linked in his post. Take a look if it could be useful or if you just are interested.

  4. I really like the stars, so I wonder if it's possible to make a plugin that just renders a certain amount of them. Plugin-features could include density, size of the stars and a reseed option. It could be useful for creating glitter effects or outer-space-pics. At least the stars are possible with codelab, aren't they?

    Can this be done?

  5. Sorry for posting after this thread was inactive for some months, but it would be weird to create a new one in G.D.

May I ask for moving the plugin to "distort" because my effects menue is just to full and I don't want to remove effects. If the plugin was done in codelab it is just enough to publish the source code so I can make a new version myself.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Is it slowly becoming annoying that there are so many small Enormator effects in the Render menue? Should I make an Enormator directory?

The idea isn't bad, but I`m afraid that in a few months "effects" will look like this:

    effectsnd8.png

This would be annoying, there's still space left in "render" I think...

BTW, when you use other languages than English your effects menue has already lesser space, because some plugins don' accept the namespaces of your language (French/German/etc) and create their own subdirectorys:

    germanoi6.png

The point I don't understand is that a couple of plugins (e. g. Madjik's Water and Waves) use the correct subdirs of your language, while the other ones don't do it. But this is another discussion...

So, at the moment "Render" is still fine for your plugins. :)

  8. Maybe there's a lens flare plugin for another open-source program someone can use...

According to http://www.acm.org/crossroads/xrds3-4/gimp.html, GIMP has a lens flare plugin: "Volunteers and the GIMP enthusiasts have written close to a hundred different plug-ins including (...) lens flare (...). Users can get these plug-ins from the Web easily or write their own." GIMP is open source, but I don't know about the plugins.

    Hope it helps.
