  1. That's a huge disappointment :( - but, thanks anyway

This feature must be added to the everexpanding To-Do list, because i feel that a great program like PDN definitely should include this feature also - ie. it's only natural to have this option when one has the ability to work with layers and it doesn't make any sense why it shouldn't be there.

  2. Hello

I have made an image which consists of four layers and now i want to move the content of layer 3 & 4 to positioning them elsewhere in the image, however i can't seem to figure out how this is done - ie. i have looked for some locking mechanism which would enable me to lock the layers and move the stuff i want, but i can't find it !

Does this mean that it's not possible to move contents from two layers at the same time in PDN or do i miss something ?

also i have thought of just merging the two layers, but i'm reluctant to do this, because i'm not sure that it is possible to un-merge them again should i want to change something in one of the layers !

  3. If PDN is meant to work like every other piece of professional software outthere then i'd might as well just shell out the $$$ in order to a piece of software that already includes the tools we are missing (the magic wand for example), but is very hard to use, because it lack the intuitiveness which PDN hopefully will get as time goes by.

I'm sorry guys - I meant the magnetic lasso

  5. If I recall correctly from the computers class I took in 8th grade, in which we covered Photoshop briefly, Photopshop, as well as probably nearly every advanced image manipulation program, requires a key to be pressed to select the clone region as well. (Although I don't remember if it's Ctrl or Alt for Photoshop).

Okay, so you're saying that PDN should work on the "this-is-how-we-normally-do-things" principle ! (I'm not trying to be rude)

The problem with your idea is that what if you wanted to use the tool again, with a different clone source? You would have to deselect the tool by choosing a different one, and then go back to it again just to do so. Hardly intuitive. Besides, When you select the Clone Stamp tool in Paint.NET, it gives perfectly good instructions on how to use it in the bottom of the Paint.NET window.

ahhh, now i see it - that's very embarrasing for me, but i must admit that i hardly look in that corner when using PDN    - also i'll agree that it would be very annoying if a user had to de-select the clone tool all the time in order to be able to clone from a new area - point taken :)

  7. The one thing I absolutely hate about CorelDraw is that the scroll wheel is tied to zoom and can't be reassigned to scroll up and down.

I see your point and have two solutions for solving this issue:

    1. make it so that pushing the mouse wheel down while dragging the mouse forward/backward will make it scroll - ie. like it would do in a Word document or on a webpage (not the optimum solution)

    2. right click and then select the behavior you want from a the context menu which will appear - ie.:

    - enable scroll wheel on first mouse click.

    or

    - enable scroll when scroll wheel is pushed while moving the mouse forward/backward.

Implementing this should make just about everyone happy (i hope ! )

  9. Hello

I would like to see an ability to select various things when i right click on the mouse.

    an example:

I have just selected a part of an image which i would like to make a copy of - then it should be possible to just right lick and select Copy - then if i open a new layer or a make a new image (starting from scratch) then it should be possible to just right click and select Paste.

I know this is possible using CTRL+C and CTRL+V, but i'm not much of a "keyboard-guy" and besides i'm used to do it like this in MS-Paint (it's just more natural for me this way)

What do you all have to say about this suggestion ?

  10. The cursor is supposed to have an anchor when you press control. Holding control, you click on the part of the image you want to be copied, then you release the key and click elsewhere and the "anchor" is copied to wherever you click and/or drag.

I also wish to say thanks for the explanation, because i have also has some serious problems figuring out how this tool work !

Reading through your explanation then it must be clear to everyone that the tool is overcomplicated ! - ie. why the need to press a key in order to clone something ?

    Suggestion:

Make the achor appear from the start - ie. the user would most likely not select the clone tool/rubber stamp if they didn't intent to use it right away

  11. Well, maybe i'm just very narrow minded (i think i am !), however, i still think that the learning curve is rather steep for a person (like me) who is used to use MS Paint ! - MS Paint gets the job done for me most of the time, however, its limitations (the lack of layers, magic wands, magnetic lasso, the ability to rotate objects outside the predefined angles and scewing up images when saved as gif or jpg ) is quite an annoyance.

If MS Paint got these tools and kept being so userfriendly then i would never consider to use another drawing tool.

However, i think that PDN appears to be a great tool and i'm quite sure that it will be improved in the years to come - maybe wi'll one day be so lucky that it will include a magnetic lasso like the one found in Photoshop, because that tool really rocks IMO

  12. Hi guys

I have also had a very brief experience with GIMP - install... uninstall !

    @Yata

I have tried Photoshop and PDN looks a lot like it IMO

regarding userfriendlyness i think that this should be the absolute keyword for the PDN project - IMO the World don't need yet another advanced drawing/image editing program, but we could certainly use one that is intuitive and thereby userfriendly.

  13. Hello

I have recently downloaded Paint.net, because i want to have a few more options than i have when using MS Paint.

However, i find Paint.net to be an uphill struggle just like Photoshop where one also have to read through tons of manuals just to do simple stuff.

I'm hoping that paint.net will get rid of this "evil" as time and further development goes by.

    Now to my problem:

I have one image in the background layer and i have created another layer where i want a new image to be this should, IMO, be the most simple task, but I can't figure out how to do it !

It would be nice if users had the ability to just right-click on the layer and then have an option to import an image and also to remove the background (don't know if this can be done)

I also think the lasso tool works very wierd, but i have once used it with great success.

    EDIT

I figured out how to do it myself

    Layers => Import From File

But i still think that this option should be available in the layers window also !
