  1. Checked the Adjustments drop-down menu and found 3 Curves (2 Curves+ and 1 Curve) options.

Checked the adjustments subdirectory and only found one .dll. Anywhere else I should search?

Another query - downloaded the latest version from getpaint.net and found that the brush size problem remains unchanged - is this problem only for some users as someone said the updated prog works as claimed.

  2. With each passing day, we see a proliferation of tutorials which shouldn't attract the attention of others. They are either too simple in techniques or a repetition of what someone else has already done - and done in a better way.

Perhaps, all these so-so tutorials should be given their moment of glory for a few days after which they should be deleted so that those seriously wanting to learn the better techniques will not have to go down so many side-paths before discovering an optimal technique. This will trim down the morass of tutorials that we're having.

  3. Wonder if some moderator could sticky this tutorial.

For many users, the lack of adequate instructions in English, on the original Japanese webpages, results in the inability to use the excellent plugin to its fullest potential.

If this tutorial were stickied, it would enable Paint.net users to learn how to use all three main features of the shape3D plugin by MKT.

This is an example of a tutorial that I think should have been sticked quite some time ago!

  4. Thanks, Ash, for another great shape3D tutorial.

Got a question, tho - when I change the first colour from black to yellow, my picture colour changes immediately from the black gradient to a yellow gradient.

To circumvent this problem, I need to change tools first, then select the gradient tool once again and work with the new colour.

An alternative method of circumventing this problem was by Ctrl-D.

Is there some step that I should be following to obviate this need?

  5. Perhaps, the stickied tutorials for various techniques could have links at the bottom of the page to other similar useful tutorials that have sprung up earlier or later than the selected tutorial.

The truth is that some tutorials have become obsolete with the arrival of new plugins. What previously was a stroke of brilliance is now an unnecessary waste of time. Paint.net users should not have to discover this by chance.

Sentimentality should be set aside so that clearer and better tutorials could replace older ones. Or perhaps modifications be done to the older sticked tutorials to take in the improved ideas, techniques and plugins.

Right now, with each passing day, any new user will be paralyzed by the prolific number of good and so-so tutorials all within this forum.

  6. Perhaps, what we need are stickied examples of creative techniques rather than the current tutorials.

Currently, the current tutorials are actually threads that flow out of an original example. A vastly improved technique could sometimes be found a few pages away from the original post.

What users will always look out for are reliable and hopefully simple ways of achieving good results. Could a separate forum for "hall of fame" techniques be started? Just dreaming!

  7. Found another fairly easy way to paste different pictures onto the cube map (not dice map)! Got the idea after seeing Ash's tutorial.

    1. Open the picture that should be on one side of the cube.

    2. Run the 3D shape plugin & Adjust the object rotation until you obtain the desired position

    3. Put a tick only on one surface e.g. Box --> Cube map -->Front

    4. On clicking OK, the 3D shape plugin will create only that side of the box.

    5. Create another layer and paste another picture with the same dimensions as the original picture in the background layer.

    6. Run the 3D shape plugin but selecting a different side of the box - keeping the object rotation unchanged.

    7. Repeat step 6 to create each side that you desire with a picture of the exact dimensions as in the background layer.

    8. Finally, flattening will result in a box on one layer.

  8. This could be a solution:

    1. Open your first picture.

    2. Start a different Paint.net picture and fill it with a colour e.g green.

    3. Go to Image menu and Resize this second green picture to your desire.

    4. Go to Layers-->Layer's Properties--->Opacity to enable you to see the first background picture.

    5. Using the Move Selected Pixels Tool (upper right hand tool on the Tools Menu), you can move this second picture (green in this example) over the background picture until you are satisfied with your selection on the background picture.

    6. Switch back to the background layer and then you have a selection that is the size that you wanted.

    7. Control-C will then copy your desired selection into the clipboard from which you could pasted immediately into a new image.

Apologies for step errors in earlier posting!

  9. Hi Ash,

Thanks for thinking about doing a tutorial.

I've been trying it out in this way with some success:

    1. Create a box using a 600x600 background (or other desired size)

    2. Using a new layer with a picture of the same size, I now create an identical box with only one side specified e.g. top

    3. Then creating another new layer with another picture of the same size, I now specify the new side of the box that I want the picture to be on.

    4. Steps 2 & 3 are repeated as necessary to create all the different sides with different pictures as desired.

    5. I delete the background

    6. Flatten the image

    7. The box appears with different pictures on different specified sides.

Question: Is this how you do it with this plugin? The method I described is the only solution that I can think of!

Only snag is that I've got to resize the images to the same size as the original background so that the shape3D plugin will create identical-sized box sides that will flatten correctly.

Wonder if there's an easier way?!!

  10. Been using Paint.net for awhile but feel embarrassed to say despite going thru' MKT's website, I really still don't know how to place a picture on one of the sides.

Wonder if it's because my shape3D plugin is the older version. Went to the website, downloaded it several times from the download link on the left column but still don't see any options to position pictures to the sides of a box. Having version 1.1.2.0.

Guess I'm one of the few who probably needs a step by step tutorial! Could a kind soul (Ash?!) be a good Samaritan?

  11. The months may roll by as long as we've hope.

To be more specific, I was hoping for options that would allow us to input the x,y coordinates for the four corners (or eight if possible) of the new position for the picture.

These x,y coordinates we can determine easily by placing the cursor over the points where the picture is to be positioned (e.g. the four corners of the side of a box)and noting them down on paper. Then with the revised plugin, we could precisely fit the picture into its new setting.

Hope the request is clear!! Thanks for the response despite your business.

  12. Hi Dan,

Jotting down the four corners is much easier than trying to fix the corners using the current plugin or rotatation feature in Paint.net.

Just imagine how easy it would be to fill the visible sides of the box or any four sided shape (quadragon? Lol - forgotten the correct term!).

Right now it's agony fitting a picture precisely to the side facade of a box.

    Hope springs eternal....

    David

  13. Finally, there's hope, the plugin master has come!

Evanolds, I was wondering if it could be possible to be more precise in distorting the shape of a picture. This would make fitting a picture to the side of a 3D box very much easier.

The four corners of the side could be determined by the user quite easily by placing the mouse cursor over the corners.

Then I would like to use a newer version of your plugin on a picture placed on a layer above the box. If by having the four corners position (x,y) specified, we could all then re-shape the picture easily into the side or facade of the box.

In other words, instead of doing it by trial and error, we can now quite specifically use the plugin to re-shape the picture to fit the side of the box or other four corner shape.

Looking at your current plugin, I think (and earnestly hope) it's possible!!!

  14. Wonder if these steps will help you...

    1. Create another layer over the background picture.

    2. Create the oval on the new transparent layer

    3. Create another layer over this layer

    4. Type the first letter of your text

    5. Click the selection tool, move it to the position that you desire, and then right-click and drag until the rotation is correct.

    6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each letter of your text

    7. Click on the oval (if you don't want this object and are only using it to guide your positioning) and then delete the layer.

Perhaps, someone could come up with an easier method to help you!
