I agree with some of the others. Curves+ and AA's Assistant are plugins that are so invaluable to me as well.
It depends on the type of work you do really.
I personally user Curves+ for adjusting color balance and for adjusting the luminousity settings. AA's Assitant is for refining the edges of traced out objects or shapes and its been featured on many tutorials published on this forum as well.

I like the idea and I have thought that such a function is needed if you got a whole library of plugins. And yes, it would be quicker if a search bar on top would be visible and accessible immediately.
It gets my vote as well..

What you may be suggesting is that Paint.NET should have preset print templates with different and customizable paper sizes right?
-
You can easily resize images on Paint.NET whilst retaining the aspect ratio.
Just go to Image from Paint.NET's menu bar then choose Resize. From there, set the width and height dimensions you like with the Maintain aspect ratio box ticked and that will be fine.

Man, your designs are that of a banner virtuoso. Do you print shirts as well with those logos on? That'll be nice.
So tell us, how do you design them? Where do you get the concepts? And can you please do a tutorial on how to make one design?
I wish I could do half as good as you with those banners and logos..
Clearly, I'm not a layer genius.

I have not tried it myself but somebody else on this forum told me it is possible.
Assuming that you already have Paint.NET 3.5 on your C:/Program Files directory, try downloading the latest beta version 4 here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27954-paintnet-40-beta-build-5168/
Once you downloaded that, install the Paint.NET 4 setup on another folder, other than C:/Program Files. If you have a D: drive, try installing it there. This is to avoid program conflict with the one on your C:/Program Files directory. But its still possible to run into some conflicts I think.
-
What version of Paint.NET do you use? Maybe you can try using a stylus.
-
You deleted the Paint.NET program folder from C:\Program Files and it left more orphaned files and Registry keys that makes the computer think that its still there and won't let you re-install it.
The solution I will try is to do a System Restore. Type system restore on the Start Menu search box. Use System Restore to restore your computer to a date before you deleted the Paint.NET folder. You would be unlucky if your system protection is disabled or if you don't have any restore points. If not, try using CCleaner to delete these orphaned junk files left then attempt another install of Paint.NET but try installing version 4 this time.
If you did manage to restore, do not use the updater feature on Paint.NET but instead try downloading the latest beta version of Paint.NET 4 provided here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27954-paintnet-40-beta-build-5168/
It should be on a ZIP file.
If ever you want to force uninstall Paint.NET, you can use a free program called Revo Uninstaller to remove it completely along with its orphaned components. Then if its successful, try installing Paint.NET 4 using the install package that you can download from the link above. This will hopefully do a fresh install of Paint.NET 4 and resolve any issues.

Meanwhile, I saw that after saving the picture as a jpg it could be "unflattened." What is the purpose of doing that--whatever it means?
Thanks,
Renee
Actually, it would get "flattened" not "unflattened" when you continue to save it as .jpg. That is because .jpg and other standard image formats do not support layers so saving your work to those standard formats would mandate merging all your layers called flattening. Only when you save a file that has layers into either .pdn or .psd (with the help of a plugin) does it retain all its layers and won't get "flattened" unless you intended to do so by going to Image>>Flatten. Hope that helps.

Let me clarify this.
What you want to happen is to mark an area of your screenshot with a box that has a semi-translucent color (can see through the bottom) with an opaque border?
What I did was simply, add a new layer, set my primary color to red and secondary color to a semi-transparent red. I then drew a rectangle with the Draw Filled Shape With Outline option.
You can create a box like this on one transparent layer, then delete the white Background layer, crop it that it almost fits the edges of the canvas. Save it as a .pdn file.
And once you're editing images you want to put this box highlight on, just go to Layers from the Menu bar and Import from File then browse to the .pdn file your created that has the semi-transparent box. It should import it there and it should be resizable plus re-usable anytime.

That feature in MS Paint is called Transparent Selection. If you want to do the same thing in Paint.NET, you will have to cut (CTRL+X) your selected/highlighted portion of the image, add a new layer (CTRL+Shift+N) and paste (CTRL+V) it there then follow what Ego Eram Reputo had suggested and that is to use the Move Tool to drag the selected portion across the image. You may also hold the right mouse button and drag it clockwise or counterclockwise to rotate the selected portion while using the Move Tool. You may flatten the layers (CTRL+Shift+F) once you're happy with the results. Good luck.

As long as the image that needs to be resized has no layers, MS Paint will do. Its not a bad program, trust me
Yes, we hope you'll get through this. Best of luck to you mate.

It could be a bug with the Paint.NET version you are using. Tell us what Paint.NET version do you use that has this problem.
If you really need this image resized as soon as possible, I suggest you try resizing it using MS Paint for now. It has its own image resize function.
Right click your image from the Desktop or Windows Explorer and Edit. MS Paint should open this by default.
If not, right click your image and Open with then Paint. Look for the Resize button.
You'll just have to uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" checkbox before typing the dimensions you want, same as with Paint.NET.
MS Paint does not resample the image as good as Paint.NET does but I think it does an acceptable quality in a lot of times anyway.

Can you explain that steps that you have repeatedly tried and failed?

One of the tiny paintings around her seems to be that of Hatsune Miku.
Her name should fit her "story" if a manga or anime of her exists.
Plenty of feminine Japanese names though. Reading through a manga or watching an anime would present lots of ideas.
-
This is interesting.
What's her name? She should have a male counterpart.

While on the Open file dialog, right click an empty space, choose Sort by and Date. It must be is Descending order. This will sort out your files with the newest ones on top of the list.

Touchscreen devices are not the best for using graphics-manipulation software like Paint.NET that would normally have lots of tiny controls.
Maybe it should be the devices themselves that should have the ability to zoom the screen to enlarge the controls.

Ishi, you can trace the raspberry from a photo using a line tool and then selecting the inside of the berries and going from there.
Thanks for the suggestion. I can get an existing picture, add a new layer on top of it and trace. I will try that soon ))

@Ishi: I used the same style I use for most of my drawings, a solid color, blurring, and Bevel Selection.
I used bevel selection heavily too.
The shadings were masterful as if done by hand. The berry is too hard for me to draw using the mouse.

You mean the Paint.NET icon had replaced some of the icons that are pinned on your Taskbar, including some belonging to programs that have nothing to do with Paint.NET?
In that case, its suspicious, worse, it could be a malware infection. Make sure you have downloaded your copy of Paint.NET from a trustworthy site.

I would try a system restore in your case. Try doing system restore to a date before this started happening..

Helen, can you please write a small tutorial on how to draw those berries?
They look to healthy and yummy already. This could even provoke us to try and draw fruits using only PDN. Its such a marvelous feat.

You can manually use the Pencil tool if you want Antialiasing completely off.
You can just also use the Brush tool, then turn on and off the Antialiasing as you draw or edit.
I'm not quite sure what you wanted to happen but when I want better refined edges of the lines I draw or the edges of images I have cut out, I would resort to the AA's Assistant Plugin.

Is it supposed to be a rocky planet? Or a gas giant?
A rocky planet should have a rough looking terrain with craters and scars visible on its surface.
One theory I have is to use the concrete texture tutorial which should make a rough surface like that of the moon:
http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/16075-concrete-texture-tutorial/
Then once all the layers are merged, use the Shape 3D Plugin to make a planet.
paint.net 4.0.1 is now available
