Problems saving an image

I just finished working on a picture and when I tried to save it, and the Save Configuration box comes up that usually shows a portion of the saved file, it is just a white box. I tried to save it anyway and the image that I saved just shows up as an empty white page. Is it not going to let me save this picture? I don't want to lose my picture..I've been working on it steadily off and on all day and I finally finished it!!!
