Bruce Fraser
I've installed .NET 3.5 SP1, and rebooted. When I try to install Paint.Net 3.36, all I get is a "beep" sound, presumably an error beep. There is some file activity, but it disappears as fast as it is created. All that remains are two empty folders in the TEMP folder: PdnSetup and PdnSetup2. No error messages are displayed, and no error log file that is obvious. I've downloaded earlier versions -- 3.35 and 3.30 -- and they both produce the same result. Thanks for your help. - Bruce Fraser
Bruce Fraser
Followup to my previous message. I used an Undelete tool to recover the files that were in the now-empty PDNSetup and PDNSetup2 folders. Among them was PaintDotNet.msi, so I ran that program. This time there was no beep, but I did get an error message: ============= Windows Installer ! This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor. OK ============= The processor on this computer: AMD Athlon XP
Bruce Fraser
PROBLEM SOLVED! And very easily, too. All I had to do was wait a couple of days for Microsoft Update to install a patch on top of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. After that, Paint.NET worked just the same as it did in the good ol' days. I didn't note which patch it was when it happened. Looking at the list of installed updates, I think it would have been one of these three, with the top one being the most likely. 1) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958484 2) KB954550-V5: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ...
