  1. Never mind. Paint.net is much too complicated for my simple task. I'm using another tool. Thanks for your time, regardless.
  2. Ok this is what I have: http://paulrittman.com/FDPic.png I can grip that marker that is pointing in all 4 directions, but the only thing that move is the marker itself. The text stays where it is. And those words are only part of a longer quote, most of which is off the screen.
  3. Thanks. Partial progress here. I can expand the canvas so that there is white space on the right side (which is what I want). I can paste the text in, but when I try to move it, all I see is a wide rectangle of moving arrows around the text. I can hit Ctrl+z and undo the chnages, but them I'm back to square one, and this process starts over again.
  4. All I'm trying to do is insert text to the side of a photo on my computer. I can see how to add text ONTO the picture, but I want it to the right of the picture. I'm trying to work with layers but can't seem to get what I want. I can paste the text onto the graphic, but when I move the text to the right, it simply disappears. I've done this before, but only a very long time ago and unfortunately I seem to have forgotten how to do this.
  5. Sorry but I've been busy. OK I combined the two responses immediately above, and made sure that I created a new layer, and then, worked in that layer to write the text. Then, after closing then reopening it, I used the Move Selected Pixels tool to move the text. What I saw was that everything I wrote (on that second layer) was moved, not just one word. For example, earlier I typed in "Turkey" and "Saudi Arabia." When I reopened it, I was able to move the text, but I could not simply move one term. When I moved "Turkey," "Saudi Arabia" also moved. And I see that you can't really edit the text, as has been explained above. At this point, I don't think Paint.NET is the tool I need to use for this particular purpose. Thanks for bearing with me.
  6. This is getting a bit complicated. I clicked on the second layer (with the text), but wasn't able to do anything at all with it (like move it around). Anyways, thanks for your time--I'll just use a PDF editor to do this on a PDF.
  7. Hmmm even after saving the original as a PDN, after opening it up in paint.NET and then inserting more text, then saving; after re-opening the file, I was unable to edit or delete the text entered in previously. I even tried adding a layer, then entering the text.
  8. Sorry but I'm all thumbs when it comes to photo editing. I have a simple question and I'm not sure how to phrase it. I have d/l a photo, and used Paint.NET to place text onto the photo. So far so good. Is there a way (or a particular file format) that will allow me to go back, after the photo has been saved, and edit (delete or move) the text that I have already entered onto the photo? I tried with JPG and PNG, and after saving the photo with text on it, I was unable to delete or move it. Is there any way I can work it so that I can edit text, that has already been saved? I have attached a copy of the photo here--to get it under the 256K limit, I had to shrink it.
