I did try the win installer cleanup. I get a ms vbscript runtime error 800A0046 when I run it after downloading from the geeks site.

What is your Operating System version? (XP, Vista, Win 7, etc.)
32-bit or 64-bit?
Windows 7, 64-bit. Is it not supporting 64-bit and I missed that?

What version of Paint.NET do you have installed?
Which version of the .NET framework do you have? Do you have .NET 3.5 SP1?
Have you tried repairing the framework?
Paint.net: 3.5.8
.NET framework 3.5.1; repaired the framework, restarted. Same thing.

Try running the file PdnRepair.exe. It'll be wherever you installed Paint.NET, eg C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\PdnRepair.exe
Thank you - should have mentioned I tried that, too. the same error comes up:
"The application has failed because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

Paint.net is not working for me when I try to launch it: "The application has failed because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."
So, when I attempt to do an uninstall from the control panel to uninstall and then try a new install, this pops up: "There us a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."
I've gone through the installer posts already to make sure I have net framework, etc in place.
Thanks so much, tammi

I checked - don't see any installs in there and no folder for paint.net
