When I select an area around an image it also includes a transparent area(has the checker board pattern) that when it goes over another part of the image it. Is there any way to prevent this? I would prefer to have the transparent area actually be transparent.

A tutorial on how to extract a solid color from a photo? I have a reference photo of some fabrics that I want to pull some colors from. I try and use the color select tool and depending on what pixel I am on it pulls a color that I am not looking for. How can I take an color average of the selected area?
