  1. Try viewing .bmp, png, jpeg of the same size. Try some other .tifs. Try converting .tif to another format such as .png & then see if Paint will view .png file. Notice if the .png is any smaller in file size than the .tif. I suspect there is a file size limitation or memory (RAM) problem. Try shutting down pc to clear any memory problem, bootup, then view tifs again. Run scandisk & defrag as files maybe alittle corrupt if they have been on your hard drive for a long time. Then try viewing tif files. Uninstalling Paint.Net, shut down pc for afew minutes, boot back up & then reinstalling Paint.Net. Hope this helps & David does not come down on me again.
  2. 1 background file....300 dpi....png format.....size: 1 meg 3 photo frames......200 dpi....png format.....size: < 200k each 3 photos..............100 dpi.....jpg format.....size: < 200k each 3 icons................100 dpi.....jpg format.....size: 2 megs for all 3 Grand total of imported files: < 4-5 megs total Page setup: size: 11 x 13 sheet of paper. Alittle bigger than letter size as I wanted a white border when printing. DPI: 300 to preserve clarity. Paint.net .pdn output file size: 35 megs. Paint.Net acts as tho graphic files are .bmp files. My final Paint.Net should not be 4 times larger than what I imported in my humble opinion. My computer specs: OS: XP Pro I am running a P4 CPU: 3200+ Ram: 1 gig HDrv Space: 500 gigs (What can I say, I like graphics.) Pc is running fine & I just ran scandisk & defrag the day before I started this project. I have anti-virus pgm, delete cookies etc. I take care of maintenance. I know when dealing with graphics, not to run any other pgms in the background. Graphic cost me in RAM, TIME & MONEY! Paint.Net is running extremely slow when importing small graphic icon size files. The more individual graphics I import into layout, the slower it gets. I must save file in another format, I prefer .png, thi8s flattens the .pdn file, then open/edit the .png file. Not use my original .pdn file so I can make additional changes. Can not enter text as that was the last thing I wanted to do with this file attachment you see above. Moving the different graphics that were imported, is extremely hard at times as it takes forever to move one thing that is out of place. Is stretching a image file on a page, is it difficult for Paint.Net to understand? Icons & background were not stretched. Did I answer all of your questions David? You seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, referring to your email to me. Re-read Rick's board rules.... You get more bees with honey......
  3. My computer spec's are: P4 CPU: 3200+ Ram: 1 gig HDrv space: 500 gigs (I like graphics) background file: 8 megs size in .png format. 300 DPI...frame size: 2000 x 3000 Photos (2) sizes: < 200k file size each. Low quality. Jpg format. I had to stretch photos to get them inside photo frames. Which is a no no when dealing with digital graphics. In the above file attachment is not the background I chose. See 2nd msg which is actual layout I ended up with. (Photos are from a cell phone. These photos are from a deceased person.) However I do not believe this has anything to do with it since I must import photo first, guess as to where photos should be place on page, then import background file over photos, in order to make photos show thru the photo frames of the background file. The background file is like a template, you fill in the blanks. If Paint.Net will not let me import a photo into a template, send photo behind template where the transparancy is, then there is no point in making templates ahead of time &/or using the templates I already have. I will have to import every graphic file one by one &/or be very creative in my technique.
  4. 3 layers total. If you look at the file attachment, that is one layer in .png format. The other 2 layers are 2 photos that you insert into the background file. Background file is: 8 megs. Where the picture frames in original file, are transparent.
  5. Is Paint.net suppose to slow down when importing small icon size files? Text can not be entered unless I edit .png file thru Paint.Net. This sounds like a bug problems. Why does Paint.Net make such large output files? My icons & photo files were not very big yet I ended up with a 35 meg file. Is it normal when importing small image files to create a huge output file in Paint.Net?
  6. Better yet....here is the file with the transparent background which is what I think you want. Notice the file extension is: .png. Gifs also support transparent backgrounds. They just don't have as much color as using .png format. Happy computering.
  7. You can crop around the character in that file but I think you want to make it transparent background. Crop as much as you can around the character then use the eraser to edit around the file. You need to save the file in .png format. .Png supports transparencies. Unfortunately Adobe PhotoShop has the best eraser I have seen. You click on background once & the background is transparent. Paint.Net can not do this at this time. I tried Gimp & it can not do this afew years ago. I have not tried newer version. Leave your email here & I will do it for you.
  8. I am having problems with this one. After importing several files, trying to move one that I have already imported 5 steps ago, is almost impossible. I usually just delete the image file I imported & reimport the image files. I know to click on which layer box I want to delete. For some reason, it seems to be very slow at moving the layer I want to move or I pick the wrong one at times. Other times, Paint is still on last layer I imported & won't go to layer I want to move when I click on layer box & appropriate layer. As I am working with scrapbook files, the layouts are sometimes in .png format. This is so you can import photos into the picture frame within the file or template. I believe I read in another post, Paint may have a problem with .png format. Many icons I import are in .png format as the background of the file is transparent. The picture frame is already in my .png. When importing a photo, I can not find a command to send photo to the back so photo will appear behind picture frame. Any suggestions anyone? My pc is running fine, it just seems like Paint is running a lot slower than it should.
  9. I am working on a scrapbook project. Have use Paint.Net for about 3-4 yrs off & on. Mostly for editing purposes. However I decided to try Paint.net for this project of scrapbooking. I have noticed when adding small icon size files into the layout, Paint.Net slows down considerably. Can not enter text in my original .pdn file. I must save file in another format which flattens the .pdn file. Open my .png file using Paint.Net & enter my text. I configure my layout to be: 8.50x11, DPI set at 300 as I am dealing with photographys & want them to print great. Then import icons & photos. Photos not very big, 500k-1 meg in size as I am cropping photos. My .pdn file ended up being 35 megs completed, except for the text I later entered in my .png file only. Below is the finished product shrunken. There is not a lot of graphics to this file. In fact the photos were taken off a cell phone so you know they were not big to start with.
