David and CJ You guys are great - and really patient. Before I try again I wanted to ask if the top border on the header can be thiner than the bottom border? If you could take a look at the following website you can see what I'm after - I'd like to copy what they have done; http://www.todays-women-and-health.com/index.html Now what confuses me about these border lines is that the fellow whose template I have purchased to upgrade the look of my site told me this morning in reference to the horizontal borders on the header at the above url "thats just part of the graphic. Lines added to it. Very simple, any graphics program will allow u to do that." But if I click on that header and select view image the border lines are not there! And there are no border lines set in the page source but there is a line of code that says; So that suggests the border lines are part of another grahic- a background one. Is that right? But I dont know what that is all about. Could you set me straight on this before I doing any thing else with my header. Much appreciated Brett

Hi David and others Thanks for helping (again) Sorry- but I couldnt get it to work. I tried the easier way first then the harder way but failed on both. I selected my color. When I clicked canvas size there is no "constraint" box that you referred to. There is "by absolute size" which wouldnt let me unselect it. Under that is "maintain aspect ratio which is not selected. In the pixel size boxes I put 8 into the width box and left the vertical which was 150 (the height of the header). When I clicked ok I got a slather of the original header - 8 pixels wide and 150 deep showing. Could you try again. Sorry but I have so little experiance with this. Cheers Brett

Hi everyone I wonder if someone could spare some time to help me out? I started using paint this morning for the first time so I'm struggling along. I have an image of a girl jumping in the air and the background is an all blue sky. I wanted to cut the girl out and get rid of the background. I found a tutorial online talking about how to use the magic wand to remove a background so I though I was ok but the whole exercise worked in reverse. I opened the pic and magnified up to 400 then hit the magic wand button and set tolerance at 31 (whatever that means - the tutorial did that). Then I moved the magic wand next to the girl and clicked and the whole outline of the girl was outlined with a moving border - so I thought 'great', it's going to cut her out for me. I didnt know what to do next so ( I think) I went to edit and clicked cut. The girl disappeared and the background remained- the exact opposite of what I had wanted. I have attached above the original pic and the result of my attempt. Can anyone help? Cheers Brett

I just got it- sorry I should have thought longer about what you wrote. Now, is it possible with paint to make the text (i.e. the words "nutritional-supplement-truths:) look like the text in the attached graphic above (which was done on ACDSee software)? Many Thanks

sorry- I dont know what you mean. After I imported the second graphic and moved it to the right side of the banner, I then clicked new layer, then text tool (A) and placed my cursor in between the two graphics and nothing shows as I type? I tried like 10 times already? P.S How do I edit the topic title? Cheers

Hi Myrddin Thanks for helping me out. I followed ur comments and all went well until I created a new layer and selected the text tool. When I click the cursor in the area I want the text and start to type no text shows up. The cursor moves with each keystroke but no text! Only thing I can think of is that it is typing in white color but I see no color controls at the top near the font style box etc to select colors? What do you think? Many Thanks Brett

Hi everyone I'm completely new to Paint.net and Ive read thru some of the tutorials but can't get the hang of it. Can someone give me a heads up how to create a header graphic from scratch for a website . I want it 770 pixels wide and 140 deep and I have two small graphics to lay on each end of the header and then write some text in between these. Many Thanks Cheers Brett

And when I try using the gradient key it fades out with a checkered square pattern. I just wanted to fade in from white on the left of the graphic like the graphic in the attached file.
