I think you are all missing the point. We are not using a brush. We want to use the square or round cutout tools so that if we cut out part of the picture the edges are smoothe or feathered.

I am having the same issue. I've done this before in The Gimp buy choosing my selection tool then checking feather edges in the selection tools options. I am looking to do the same. It basically copies the selection but gives a soft edge, that I set.
