after receiving guidance from this forum, I took the following step to troubleshoot the problem:
Removed TrustView from Startup
> I removed the TrustView application from the Windows 11 Startup list via Settings > Apps > Startup, and then rebooted my laptop.
I'm pleased to report that after performing this step, the issue with paint.net seems to be completely resolved! I can now use the selection tools without any crashes.
If anyone else encounters a similar issue with paint.net, I recommend checking your system's startup applications and removing any potentially conflicting software.
