    thank you both for your response and i think i have it corrected now. It was the eraser tool. and I have been using paint dot net for many years now. Not sure why the tool looked so different this time?

    my cursor in paint dot net looks like a plus sign or cross with a square block beside it and may be stuck in some tool mode? I have looked and tried to remove this so my cursor will look normal or return back to being a circle. What is causing this and how to I fix this or get it out of this mode?
