    I would suggest a temporary increase in canvas size to help with your up close work. Image > Canvas Size... Increase the width and height by a couple hundred pixels, anchored at center. You now have a border to work on. Reduce the width and height to the original size, anchored at center. The border disappears! Just remember this is different than Resize.
