I see the problem. I used "Hue/saturation" in stead of "Conditional Hue/Saturation".

With Conditional Hue/Saturation Adjustment I can change to many different colours, but not all of them.

Are there any other methods to change a colour which can't be selected with Conditional Hue/Saturation Adjustment?

The only thing I don't understand is what you main with "use a transparent radial gradient to blend into the background of the original image".

Is it also possible to use the colour accent tool to remove the background of the image? So I only see the shovel.

P.S. We don't have any of them on stock!
