I've added a second download option to the first post. Now you can download a zipped pack of DLLs for manual installation with the Store version of paint.net.

    You will need to

    1. Download the zipped DLL package (click the big gray button)
    2. Extract the DLLs to the folder  /Documents*/paint.net App Files/Effects/
    3. Restart paint.net

    * the name of this folder may be translated to your system language

Thanks. Worked for me and by the way running the Store and Classic versions on the same PC does not cause any problems.

  2. Not your usual problem this one. Paint is not crashing with any message because of this, and it only happens when I save a long (i.e. 13,000 pixel high) image s a GIF.

I take a scrolling screen capture of a page such as this phase data listing using Snagit and trim it so this is just the text part of the phase data. In this case it is just over 7,000 pixels high but they can be as much as 16,000.

I then paste this into Paint as a new image. I then save as a GIF. I wait for the preview to finish computing and then click OK. It shows the saving dialog box and then freezes.

The problem is that it does not seem to do it every time. Generally by the time I do this image I have done 5 or 6 other smaller ones.

There is no crash data and when I kill it in process explorer it says the the program is waiting for input from me - but no dialog box is visible. You can't alt tab to one either.
