Flattening means that everything is combined into one layer. You'll want to undo that after saving and save it as a .PDN file to preserve the layers.
Try the glow function for shine.
Thanks for the advice. I tried saving as a pdn file, but it would not load into the skins file. all other skins are dds files. how do i 'undo' the flattening? after I save it, then 'flatten' it, I go back to the edit and the 'undo' is not highlighted.

I'm trying to paint my cars for rFactor. But I cant figure out how to do this. I can paint them, no problem, but how do I save them to install into the skins folder. When I do, it comes out like the images below. What am I doing wrong? When I do save them as a .dds file, the program requires it saved as 'flattened'. Is this the problem? Also, does paint.net have a feature which will give my images a 'shine'? I've seen other programs like paint pro that has that feature. Any suggestions or help will be GREATLY appreciated.

I dont have a 'metalize' function under the Photo. (shrug).
