The Matrix Effect - A simple Guide
This is a long process that guides you to create a similar image but you can definitely modify a few parameters according to your imagination. I have split this guide into 3 sections for easy understanding!
EDITING YOUR IMAGE - PHASE I
1. Open your image in Paint.Net and the layer will have the name "Background" by default
2. Duplicate the image using the Duplicate Layer icon in the Layers Window and name it as "Reserve"
3. Uncheck the Background Layer
4. Select the Reserve Layer
5. Click on Effects -> Color -> Threshold (Instead, you can also use the eraser tool to clear the background!)
6. Adjust the slider to clearly differentiate the background (if any) with that of your image and click on Ok
7. Select the Magic wand tool and click on the background color to select it
8. Use Delete button to remove the background. That will leave your image alone!
9. Click on Add New Layer icon in the Layers Window and name it as "Base"
10. Select the Paint bucket tool and fill the Base Layer with Black (Considering the primary color is Black. If not, change the primary color to Black)
11. Move the Base Layer below the Reserve Layer
Now, you'll see your image on a Black background!
EDITING YOUR IMAGE - PHASE II
1.Select the Reserve Layer
2.Select Effects -> Artistic -> Ink Sketch
3.Make the Ink Outline as 0 and Coloring as 100 and then click on Ok
4.Click on Add New Layer icon in the Layer Window and name it as "Dress"
5.Select the Reserve Layer
6.Choose the Lasso select tool and select your clothes and shoes (You can omit this step if your clothes and shoes are already Black in color!)
7.Use Ctrl+C to copy the selected portion
8.Select the Dress Layer
9.Uncheck the Reserve Layer
10.Use Ctrl+V to paste the selected portion in the Dress Layer. Do not deselect it!
11.Click on Effects -> Color -> Invert Intensity
12.Click on Deselect tool from the toolbar
13.Check the Reserve Layer again
14. Draw an outline of the image using the Paintbrush tool with the primary color as Green
Before we proceed further, this is the order in which you'll see the Layers from top to bottom in the Layers Window
Dress Layer, where we inverted the colors of your clothes and shoes
Reserve Layer, where we have our image with Ink Sketch applied to it
Base Layer, where we filled the entire layer with Black color
Background Layer, which we already unchecked
EDITING THE RAIN IMAGE
1. Then, open the image in a new layer [You can use the same image that I have used, http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs50/f/2009/ ... adysak.jpg]
2. Name it as "Rain"
3. Select the top portion of the image (Using the rectangle select tool) and crop it using Ctrl+Shift+X
4. Click on Effects -> Color -> Color Filter
5. On the sphere, click and drag the dot towards the bottom, where there is green shade. Place the dot on the desired green shade and click Ok
6. You will now see that the rain has changed to green color
7. Select the Magic wand tool and click on the background (Black color) to select it
9. Use Ctrl+Delete to cut the background, leaving behind just the rain!
10. Move this Rain Layer to the top
Finally, this is the order in which you'll see the Layers from top to bottom in the Layers Window
Rain Layer, where we edited the rain image
Dress Layer, where we inverted the colors of your clothes and shoes
Reserve Layer, where we have our image with Ink Sketch applied to it
Base Layer, where we filled the entire layer with Black color
Background Layer, which we already unchecked
There you go! We have a Matrix Effect on our image.
I'm looking forward to your comments and feedback
