Help Please Changing Colors Of Clothing
scoostraw replied to scoostraw's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
@ Cc4FuzzyHuggles : Yes the recolor tool is interesting. I'll have to spend some more time with it - and your other suggestions. And thanx xod for the link. -
I did some forum searching but did not find an answer to this. But please feel free to point me to a tutorial etc. if this is already documented someplace. I sometimes need to change the color of an article of clothing on a model photo. What sometimes works is I create a duplicate layer. Then I use Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and change the hue. Often I can get the color pretty close to what I need this way. Then I use the eraser on the rest of the image, flatten and save. My problem are the times when changing the hue doesn't get me anywhere near to the color I need. I am familiar with hex color codes, and can choose a code for what I need. If I'm able to use the magic wand to select the area, is there a way to use the color picker to change it without just making the selected area a solid color? Many thanks in advance. I realize I am a novice at this,,,

3.5. Thanks David!

I moved my layer box way off to the side to make some editing, and now for some reason I am unable to drag it back onto my work area so I can use it. Should I shut down and relaunch paint.net?

Can't get Conditional Hue/Saturation to work...
scoostraw replied to scoostraw's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Hey Ego thanks. I actually found that tut before I posted. And I got the effect to work, but for some reason changing the hue introduces square shaped blotches. Pretty nasty. (Is it ok to post an image to the forum to show what I'm trying to do?) Ok yes I will upgrade also... -
For some reason I can't seem to get this to work for me. I'm trying to change the color of a model's sweater from pink to blue. I select the pink range of the color wheel, and then try to change the hue. But nothing happens. I've looked for a tutorial with no luck. Can someone kindly point me in the right direction? paint.net 3.5.10 windows 7

Cropping Photo To 5x7 Aspect Ratio
scoostraw replied to scoostraw's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Hey I just found the answer in the FAQ. Must have missed it the first time... !! -
Is there a way to use the rectangle select tool to crop a photo to a specific aspect ratio - like 5x7 or 8x10?

How to set white balance?
scoostraw replied to scoostraw's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I don't have access to Elements at the moment, but I found a description of the feature I'm used to using. This is what I'd like to do in paint.net: "Photoshop Elements has a color cast correction feature. When you select it, you get an eye dropper tool that you use to sample a white or gray point in the photo. It will use that point as white and will correct the cast." This is an extremely useful tool. -

This is interesting. Different from what I'm used to, but maybe it will work for me. Nice work. What is the meaning/purpose of the grid lines? -
How to set white balance?
scoostraw replied to scoostraw's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Oh yes I installed it and the feature is there. I just don't think it will do what I'm looking for. I forget what the tool is called in Elements, but it allows you to click on a spot on a photo. Elements then treats this as "WHITE" and automatically adjusts the rest of the image based on that. It's a terrific feature, and I thought it was probably common amongst photo editors. But maybe not(?) -

Thanks. I just downloaded it. I don't see how to use it though.... -
I can't seem to find this anywhere... What I want to be able to do is click on an area of a photo, and then tell paint.net that I want this to be WHITE - and adjust the rest of the photo accordingly. ie, an object photographed on a white background that is tinted due to incandescant lighting etc. I know this feature exists in photoshop elements. Is it available in paint.net?

I am trying to install paint.net on a Windows PC running XP which is not connected to the internet. I downloaded paint.net to my jump drive on another machine, and then ran the install on my XP computer. At one point the install routine required that a certain windows feature be installed (I think it is "frames" but I forget now - I am not at the machine in question to check). In any case, I went to microsoft's site and downloaded this feature to my jump drive. When I went to install this however, microsoft's install routine wants to reconnect to the their website for more content. My question in short is, has anyone here installed paint.net on a system that is not on the web? If so, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks!
