  1. My version of Paint.net doesn't have a gradient setting, and I am trying to merge two photos together so that they become one, making top layer somewhat transparent so bottom image shows thru. I have done it in the past by starting with one photo then layering in another one (via import layer) ... but I cannot seem to figure out now how to make top photo transparent. I go to layer properties, overlay, move down the bar away from opacity, nada happens, top photo is still completely opaque. Not sure what to do now. Should I download higher beta version of Paint.Net? Will that have the tools I need?

  2. I am new to photo manipulation programs in general, and would like to do a sort of double-exposure, one photo over another, and I'm sure I can do this in layers but man I cannot figure it out ...

I'll start with one image, and then import a layer of another photo. Now I have both of them on my screen, the top one has those little lines revolving around its edges.

Now how do I blend the two photos together? I know this is very basic, but please tolerate my abysmal ignorance and let me know how to put the two together to come out with a (somewhat) seamless whole ...

Many thanks for your help and advice!
