One way would be to install my 'Compogrids' plugin and run it on a transparent layer above the active layer.

Thanks for the recommendation, I just tried that plugin and it's nice but wont work for my application. I have lots of photos that I need to crop down one by one, and I would have to create that layer for each photo I open (100+ pics)

Does anyone know how to get alignment lines when moving a selection like shown in the picture I attached?
