See Screenshot 01 of a folder containing two documents: homer.png homer.pdn It is not immediately obvious which one is my pdn file and which is my png. Whereas see Screenshot 02 of a folder containing two documents: homer.png homer.psd There is no confusion here which one is my psd file and which is my png. It's a small irritation of mine.
