How do i make my picture outline glow

Im wanting it so i can make a white glow around my pictures can anyone tell me how?

Note im very new at using the program.

Take a look at Myrddin's tutorial here which explains how to add images to your posts. It's always best to add one if your asking for advice on how to create an effect so that folk know what you're looking for. As for your 'glow enquiry', I'll let other more knowledgeable members answer that one. Trust me, there are many of them!

i don't know if i'm more knowledgeable... but i've been working on a technique that mimics stroke and glow from photoshop.

it only works if your image is surrounded by transparent pixels, IE on a layer by itself, either because you drew it separately or cut it out using the magic wand tool.

so, once you have isolated the image:

  [*:2nvj7pc5] :DuplicateLayer:Duplicate the current layer.
  [*:2nvj7pc5] Use the recoloring tool, with the tolerance set to 100, to change all the opaque pixels on the back layer to the color you want the glow to be.
  [*:2nvj7pc5] use :Median: Median on the back layer. if you did everything correctly, you should see an outline around the image. keep playing with the radius and percentile options, larger numbers make larger and less detailed outlines.
  [*:2nvj7pc5]if that's good, stop there. otherwise, use a :GaussianBlur: Gaussian Blur to soften the edges, making a nice glow effect.

you can also change it up a bit, replacing the gaussian step with your favorite blur. play with it, and you can get some nice effects. i usually do it twice, to make a concentric outline around my characters.

When i want to create a glow behind a text, i normally use "Drop Shadow" by Kris Vandermotten or "Outline Object" by pyrochild. I find that drop shadow is easier to create simple glows though.

Either glowing frames around the whole image or glowing outlines around text can be easily done with the effects or plugins we already have.

There is no need to make another one.

Drop shadow, Outline, Outline object, Halo, Glow, Frames, Borders n shapes, Bevel, Custom frame...and maybe a few I'm missing.

Drop shadows can be done by first downloading the plugin, you can use the Paint.NET search to find one easily.

The effect will be found under:

Effects --> Stylize --> Drop Shadow

This is an extremely good technique for interim use, but I think it would still be very helpful to have a "stroke"-type function (like the one in photoshop) for use in outlining things, such as text. A lot of the time, text is difficult to read when overlayed onto a photo, and adding a "stroke" effect makes it much more readable. Having a button that does it instead of doing a three-step process would be extremely helpful to me at least!
