Wine is making progress on being able to run Paint.Net and has finally created an entry for the app and Paint.Net specific bug reports. Although Paint.Net has no intention of supporting Wine or Linux, Paint.Net is a good test case for the Wine developers because of its technical sophistication and could start getting more and more attention from these professional developers as it gets closer and closer to being functional under Wine. Because of this, keeping an eye on the app and bugs could help to identify general improvements to Paint.Net under Windows (which may of course benefit us Linux / Mac users as a by product). (2) What about Mono support? Wouldn't that be really easy? I can't speak for Rick or the other developers of Paint.NET but I got a feeling that they are going to stay with Windows as there work load is already high. phual Posted April 20, 2008 Author Share Posted April 20, 2008 I'm aware of the FAQ and Paint.Mono (which I believe has long since died) - that's why I acknowledged the fact that Paint.Net will likely never support Wine. The point is that the bug report I linked suggests a possible bug in the Paint.Net code as well as in Wine. A possible consequence of having highly skilled programmers who work to emulate the Windows API looking at the functionality of Paint.Net (possibly the source as well) is that they may detect possible improvements and/or more elegant solutions within Paint.Net on the Windows environment. Whilst this may not be the highest priority, I'd certainly be interested in making the most of their experience were an application programmer. Don't forget that Wine attempts to emulate Windows, so there should be no need for Paint.Net to support Wine. I'm just aware that many improvements have been made to Windows programs on the Windows platform as a result of feedback from the Wine project. BtW,i dunno why the keyword installer was added, it's a bug in the app really And I have absolutely no idea what they're referring to here.
