Mike Ryan
As the title says, copy and paste functions are not retaining the transparency of all pixels. All form of transparency is lost, and I do not remember this always happening. Right now the only way to retain any transparency is to save the picture onto my computer itself and open it into a new layer. Any information would be great! barkbark00
I regularly make use of the following string of commands: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Shift+V. I don't think I have seen this problem yet... oma
not sure I'm following you. if you have a layer and select an object with transparent and copy and paste to new layer its not the same transparency? I just did that in 3.3 and checked with eyedropper and transparency stays the same. . tell us exactly the steps you are doing. ciao OMA Quote My Deviant Art Gallery Oma's Paint.Net gallery

Are you copying transparent pixels, or are you copying from a Transparent layer? Alpha data is not preserved from the original layer, but it is from the pixels. Mike Ryan
I am copying from a website. For instance, the Paint.NET logo at the top of the forum has a transparent background. When pasted into Paint.NET, it is filled white. All transparency is lost. Also, I am using PdN v3.
pyrochild
Copying GIFs from a browser never supports transparency, I believe. Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
Mike Ryan
Copying GIFs from a browser never supports transparency, I believe. If that is the case, than thankyou for the information. But I do believe this happens with PNGs, if someone could post a transparent PNG or something I will be able to tell.

Mike Ryan
Yes, it happened with David's avatar as well. Is it a bug, or a copy and paste ordeal?
pyrochild
It's bug, yes, but I think it's in the browsers or Windows' clipboard, not Paint.NET. Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
Mike Ryan
Oh well then, I guess life goes on. Maybe if a certain somebody who recently had a similar thought would write a clipboard manager this problem would be resolved
jchunn
I am copying from a website. For instance, the Paint.NET logo at the top of the forum has a transparent background. When pasted into Paint.NET, it is filled white. All transparency is lost. Also, I am using PdN v3.22 This is because web browsers on Windows copy images to the clipboard as bitmaps, which do not support transparency. The applicaction that is being copied "from" must support the ability to copy other image types or they will always be bitmaps. Quote Total hack. I suppose it does make sense seeing how it works if I save it and then load it.
