david.atwell
ARR! Welcome to Hurt and Heal 11! The Hurt and Heal Game Now with added crunchiness! Here's the goal: Make your favorite choice win, and make your least favorite choice lose. This time, it's a battle of the ages! We want to know what the best modern wonder is, and what the best ancient wonder is. When we have an answer to both, we'll pit them against one another! You know, like the AFC and NFC. (Ancient Football Conference and New Football Conference?) Winning and Losing: Winning: The first choice that reaches 100 (or the last choice standing) wins, ending the game. Losing: As each choice reaches 0, it is removed from the list. It has lost. NEW: Once only one choice remains in each category, both scores are reset to 50 and the "shootout" begins! What you do: NEW: "Hurt" a choice in each category by subtracting 10 from its score. NEW: "Heal" a choice in each category by adding 5 to its score. (You must do both of these in each turn) Rules: You may only "Hurt and Heal" once each day. Once a choice reaches 0, it is gone. You may not re-add it to the list. Let it die an honorable death. :-) The posted scoreboard comprises the only options. You may not add new options. Discussion will be held before each edition of (+/-); discuss choices there. If someone "beats you" in posting, change your scoreboard to reflect the change. Be courteous. Keep it on topic. You can talk briefly about how you chose what to hurt and heal, but take any off topic threads to . Also, if you have any ideas for the theme for the next Hurt & Heal, post them underneath your scoreboard. That'll make prep for the next one easier. RETURNING PLAYERS: Keep the special rules (highlighted in red) firmly in mind! Everyone clear? All right! The theme for this Hurt and Heal Game is... Best World Wonder (Ancient and Modern)! Here's the starting scoreboard, presented in alphabetical order according to Wikipedia's list: [start Copying Here] Ancient Wonders: [50] Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt [50] Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Babylon [50] Lighthouse of Alexandria, Ptolemaic Egypt [50] Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, Greek Asia [50] Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece [50] Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Persia [50] Colossus of Rhodes, Greece (RETURNING PLAYERS: Please read the special rules in the first post for this hurt and heal before playing!) A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.Amy: But how did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Myrddin
[55] Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt [45] Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Babylon [45] Lighthouse of Alexandria, Ptolemaic Egypt [10] Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, Greek Asia [50] Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece [40] Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Persia [65] Colossus of Rhodes, Greece (RETURNING PLAYERS: Please read the special rules in the first post for this hurt and heal before playing!) Modern Wonders: [20] Chichen Itza, Mexico [45] Christ the Redeemer, Brazil [55] Colosseum, Italy [40] Great Wall of China, China [60] Machu Picchu, Peru [25] Petra, Jordan [60] Taj Mahal, India ----------------------------------------------------- I'm not going to explain my choice every time, so I'll get it over with here. Hard to decide for the Ancient Wonders, so I'll be swapping and changing between the Lighthouse of Alexandria and Colossus of Rhodes - ancient and lost: what could be more intriguing? Although, no Library of Alexandria? I shall be writing a letter of complaint to History for this inconsistency. Also, Stonehenge is typically considered a Wonder of the Middle Ages, along with the Great Wall of China, so, where's the justice? I conceive something, and it doesn't even get wide recognition. Charming.* Modern wonders are either too modern (Christ) or not my preferred culture (Chinese), so it's pot-luck to whom I vote for/against. Though, I'll be leaning towards Machu Picchu or the Colosseum mostly. *Yes, I am perfectly aware of the chronological discrepancies with this claim in the article and in myth. david.atwell
Ancient Wonders: [60] Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt [45] Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Babylon [45] Lighthouse of Alexandria, Ptolemaic Egypt [0] Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, Greek Asia (DEAD already!) Modern Wonders: [20] Chichen Itza, Mexico [45] Christ the Redeemer, Brazil [55] Colosseum, Italy [40] Great Wall of China, China [50] Machu Picchu, Peru [30] Petra, Jordan [60] Taj Mahal, India As awesome as everything on this list is, the Giza Pyramid has a coolness factor of +10 for the mythos surrounding it. The curse, the aliens, the Stargate...it seems that nothing on this list has captured our collective interest quite like that pyramid. Plus, of course, it's the only one still standing... I hurt the Mausoleum because I'd never heard of it before. I agree with Myrddin about the Library, and about Stonehenge. History has forgotten some things, it seems like... 'course, the library would win instantly, so... ;-) Modern stuff: Machu Piccu is fascinating, I do not deny. However, it's high enough that I can justify its hurting. And there's nothing else I really wanted to hurt... Petra has always fascinated me. When you add in the fact that it was where part of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed...well, I have to vote for it! (and, like Myrddin, I'm not going to keep explaining this further.)
