Using Letters that are not on a Keyboard

With these codes you must hold ALT then type the number in on the far right numbers (the NUM pad) on your keyboard NOT with the numbers above the letters I'm typing with! You will need Num lock on.

Here are the codes:

I'm not sure why you posted that here...

This belongs more in the overflow section I think as this has nothing to do with Paint.NET

The codes won't work with every font...

This is why we all have "Character Map" on the Microsoft operating systems

Not really... Its a tutorial on how to use letters that are not on the keyboard!

Useful information. (Information I already knew about, but I'm sure it's helpful to others :))

I would also recommend instructing people about the wonder of

Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

...

But to be honest, this has little to do with Paint.NET, as ALT codes will work in just about any program that accepts text. Because of that, I'd definitely say this belongs in Overflow.

As you wish. :-)

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

well its not a tutorial...and thier called alt codes you can easily find them by searching on google. pretty much its just a list on what code equals what symbol. and o i dont think youve said them all...ive found that they go up pretty high and youve forgot to say that num lock needs to be on and the far right numbers is the "num pad" also if you use a laptop you need to use the "fn" key to activate numlock...hope this helps add a bit more detail...welcome to the forums...

  • 2 weeks later...

Using the character map would be easier than searching through that list, in all honesty.

"So, I want a © symbol, ok, lets look through this list looking for the © symbol...."

As for the character map, you'd also be able just to have it placed in the document rather you then having to memorize a code thing. I don't find it useful, though others probably will.

EDIT: And what's Alt + 256?

Alt+256 doesn't have a symbol so I just left it blank, ill edit it out now.

by the way:

Lets have a look on an ASCII Table:

http://www.computerhope.com/ascii.gif

If you want to have something of this, just press ALT and type the number.

For Example:

▓ = ALT+178

thats really easy :D

I see you got all ASCII chracters in your list, grate!
