It's been moved (although I'm not sure who did it).

@tHs- Tutorial requests go in this forum. Overflow is for non-Paint.NET related things.

This is where it belongs.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Actually, you posted it in the Tutorial forum. BoltBait moved it to GD&Q. :-)

Anyway, what are you wanting to make? I don't think I understand. Could you post an image of what you want?

Only problem with making the tut is that it takes me 5 times longer to compose it than actually making it in Paint.NET

If you don't have them already, you'll need:

Align Object found here: http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4900

and BoltBait's Transparency Plugin found here: http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3285 (optional)

I started off with a 600x600 new canvas

Hide the background layer

Then add a new layer :AddNewLayer:

On the new layer, do a rough outline of how you want the skating pond to look, as if you were looking at it from above.

I used the paintbrush :PaintBrushTool: with a brush width of 5

Use the Align Object plugin to center it on the canvas.

skate1.jpg

Then use the :MagicWandTool: set with 69% tolerance to select the inside of the pond outline.

Make sure the inside of your outline is still selected...

Create 3 new layers, in each of them perform a :LinearReflectedGradient: with primary color of white, and secondary color of white, but set to full transparency.

Perform the :LinearReflectedGradient: in the middle of one layer, towards the left side on one layer, and towards the right side of the other layer.

skate2.jpg

Then create another new layer.

(Still with the inner outline selected)

and perform a :RadialGradient: from the center of the screen outwards with the primary and secondary colors set to HEX# BBEEFF, but primary as full transparency.

Drag it outwards from the center to lightly tint the outside of your pond a light blue color.

skate3.jpg

Set the top layer (your blue tinted layer) blending mode to multiply. Then merge all 4 gradient layers downwards.

At this point, you can delete the layer with your paintbrush outline as you no longer need it.

Now, you should have the white background layer (still hidden) and the ice layer.

Select the ice layer, and choose Layers>Rotate/Zoom

My settings are below, you can adjust them to your liking...we're just tilting the pond backwards to give it the flat appearance.

skate4.jpg

Your pond should look something like this then

skate5.jpg

Now, on the ice layer, use :MagicWandTool: set to about 30% tolerance on the outside of the ice.

At this point, you may want to unhide the background white layer...

Set primary and secondary color set to HEX# CDCDCD (set secondary to full transparency)

Perform a :RadialGradient: starting in the center of the ice and dragging outwards, just enough to cast a light shadow on the outside of the pond like so

skate6.jpg

Then invert the selection so the ice portion is selected and choose the background layer.

Now run the Transparency plugin with settings something like this:

skate7.jpg

Deselect everything, and flatten the image, and you're done.

Should look something like this:
