Vista vs. XP & *our all time favorite* Windows vs. Macs

Vista

Vista seems sophisticated, but one of the biggest problems users find is the complex matter of where things are. Now the infamous CTRL + ALT+ Delete button shuts off your computer (or logs you off). Do us computer lovers have time for this? I think not. I have about 10 friends who have Vista. *All* of them just switched back to XP.

XP

I think all of us love XP (or most of us, the crazy ones don't) because we've been with it so long. It's so simple, and a whole generation of PC users has come to love it. A wave of enjoyment has passed over all it's users (except for the Mc-Maccers and the Vistans (weirdos)) But is it too common? Is it old? What do you think?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll let you guys evaluate Windows vs. Mac. Personally I love Windows, but I'm saving up for a Mac!

Hi. Yes. No. Uh-huh. Of course. Well, I don't know what you're sayin', but if you wanna leave a message at the beep...

Don't ya' love blogs?

My opinion should be pretty well stated there.

BTW, I don't use Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Ctrl+Shift+Esc is much faster to reach by hand, and it goes to the task manager instantly (some computers, including XP, go to the Lock Screen when you hit C+A+D).

Dan likes XP... <_<

My opinion: I cannot really judge between Vista and Windows, as I have used Vista very little as of now. I have bought it though. So I very lightly say Vista. I think that many people are just as you suggest: stubbornly used to XP, and not willing to adjust to Vista.

v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended.

Vista SP1 Final will be out by the end of this week. Once that's out, we'll be able to make a more realistic comparison of how good Vista really is. Oh, and XP SP3 is in Beta, no final release date announced.

I've been known to take things a little too seriously, this is a prime example of one of those times...

Vista

Now the infamous CTRL + ALT+ Delete button shuts off your computer (or logs you off).

What?! No it doesn't. On mine at least it (is it just me?) takes me to a screen which gives me the options to Log Off, Shut Down, go to Task Manager, etc., it does not automatically do the function. In fact, it does the exact same thing my parent's XP does, and my college's XP does, but with a more fanciful screen. I will stand corrected if I am wrong, of course.
...and the Vistans (weirdos)
I might well be a little off-balance, doesn't give you the right, though, to call people that because of your opinion. I'm not a strong believer in God or the Holy Divinity, doesn't mean I'm going to walk the streets hailing Christians as psychopharic whackos. Just because an OS may not be considered a true belief or way of life, please, do take thought to how you express your views.

I become extremely irate when people start to bash Vista*, mainly because thus far my friends, forums full of people and I have had no major problems using it. The most we've encountered is driver issues, but that is something that will either be sorted by Microsoft in the next SP or by the respective product companies. Mere teething problems.

I think people are too heel-dug with XP, and ultimately you'll have to move on sooner or later. Think Windows 98 to XP - how many people loved 98? I also think people are jumping on the bashing band-wagon for the sake of sounding technologically aware to others, without testing it (or testing it thoroughly) first. #3. Not saying that of you, but with some persons this to be true.

I love Vista, and feel dirty going back onto XP. I'm not saying I can't go back, nor that Vista is perfect, but I'd prefer not to go back on a permanent basis.

I have also written more lengthy replies to comments such as yours before, and with a less bias outlook, too, but for the moment, the above is good.

Vista SP1 Final will be out by the end of this week.
Excellent!

EDIT: *unduly

XP SP3 is actually in RC, you can see it in my Troubleshooting threads :)

Ok, now for my opinion. I have an Xp (Ok, half XP) desktop and a Vista Home Premium lappy and I use my XP way more than my lappy. Why? Because I like my resources geared towards my applications. I do not use Explorer on my XP (I use Explorer alternatives and my ObjectDock allows me to switch windows) but vista is very unstable without it. That bugs me. Also, more of my hardware works with XP (Could change with Vista SP1) right now, and PDN runs much faster on it. My lappy has 2gb of ram, Nvidia graphics card, 64 bit AMD while my XP has 1gb of RAM, a crappy one core processor with no dedicated graphics card. What is up with that?

Then, I hate Apple. Macs are fine but the iPod is terrible in my opinion. If it was not for the hacks for it I would never use one!

Yeah, I tested SP3 out as soon as I heard about it (Mid-December), but it only gave me problems. The uxtheme.dll patch undid itself, and at the time, there was no support for my specific build of SP3. To add to that, my 3D Flip app gave tons of errors, and the computer tended to hang when loading Explorer windows (i.e. My Computer).

Though I must say that there was a slight speed improvement for the 2 weeks I had it.

BTW, I still call it Beta because that's what it is. When Microsoft releases an RC, it's not much of a release candidate because they never release the actual Beta (those go to the employees, so it's more of an Alpha).

I'm rather curious, did Myrddin and I (and whoever else that hasn't whined about it) get the only functioning copies of Vista?

I've never had any problems with it at all. Sure, a few minor setbacks due to driver issues, but I got around it. >_>

That's not to say XP is bad either, as I never had any problems with that either. I find no fault in either of them. (Though I do admit that Vista protecting me from myself gets a little annoying sometimes.)

And Vista SP1 releases later this week? Splee. :)

well i paid for vista a lot so i have to love it lol, no really it's way better then Vista, people just havent got used to it. after some time it becomes as easy as breathing. XP is now overlooked by Game Industries and Microsoft and people are switching on to Vista.

Aww the classic Mac VS Windows, well i hardly used Mac so i have to say Windows but during the 15 minutes i used it i had hell of problems of course but it looked cool and i love the layout of it.

Disabled UAC for the win!

SP1 was released to manufacturing as of today (4th February), so that's good enough reason for me to install it.

Not believable, but fun, I'm sure. :-)

It looks like microsoft is learning from the fact that vista is a $100+ piece of bloody potato. Windows 7 is supposed to be released in 2009-2011. It seems like vista, but without all of the flaws with vista. Its too soon to tell it this will be the new xp/2000, but hopefully it will be a lot better than vista.

Windows > Mac still, but thats only because im forced to use windows in order to run all of my windows stuff, and that its better for gaming.

I'm still alive!
