Hurt and Heal (+/-) #9: Best Invention:Electrical Generation

Refrigerator...what would we do without cold pizza?!

The light bulb goes because I'd rather give it up than anything else left on that list.

I guess a toilet would die from getting so much bloody potato anyway. Um, I don't know what I just said :)

I kid you not; there's a plumbing/portable toilet business in my town that uses the following for advertising:

"They don't mind if you give 'em bloody potato. In fact, they prefer it!"

"We're number one in the number two business!"

I'm telling ya - the Printing Press r0xx0rz.

There's a place up here that goes with the slogan "Our business is going down the drain."

This is a tough one... Nearly all of those enable the others in some way. >_>

Hurt - Antibiotics... because I had to hurt something

Heal - Electricity... It enables everything else on the list! (Except for 1800s printing presses possibly... Oh and 'homegrown antiobiotics')

Geez, people. Read a book, and quit hurtin' the press. :P

But nowadays, much of the average person's written communication intake is in the form of blogs. Down with the computer!

I think you are all underestimating the significance of the printing press (though it was the alphabet that made the printing press such a screaming success). Because of Mr. Gutenberg, everything changed, everything from religion to global economics to science - no printing press, no scientific revolution, so-on and so forth. Not getting the Sunday Funnies would be the least of your worries.

The only item on the list here that might exist without the printing press is the light bulb (and considering all the research Edison needed to find a proper filament, the light bulb seems extremely unlikely). So get your votes in line: Printing Press in '08!

+: And how many lives have been saved with Antibiotics?

-: Hard choice. Electrical Generation is great. I hate to hurt it, but it has gone wrong in some situations*. Chernobyl, anyone? ;)

*excuse>

(All the other items have too...)

Hurt Electrical shiznit partly cos it was too high, hence hurting it will keep the contest interesting. And I think it would be interesting to see what life would be like today without electricity, things would be very different.

Heal Printing Press, I like books, they have the power to take you somewhere that no method of transport ever could. They can also be very interesting, like The Book Of General Ignorance, fantastic read, look it up y'all, but it & read it, it's fantastic.

And because I'm on the subject of books have a few of the best authors (in my opinion anyway)

Terry Prachett

Douglas Adams (The Dirk Gently books are fantastic)

Bill Bryson

That's enough for now, I think I've gone sufficiently off topic :P
