Hurt and Heal (+/-) #9: Best Invention:Electrical Generation

Recommended Posts

Here we go! Welcome to Hurt and Heal 9!

The Hurt and Heal Game

Here's the goal:

Make your favorite choice win, and make your least favorite choice lose.

Winning and Losing:

Winning: The first choice that reaches 100 (or the last choice standing) wins, ending the game.

Losing: As each choice reaches 0, it is removed from the list. It has lost.

In the event that only two choices remain, both scores are reset to 50 and the "shootout" begins!

What you do:

"Hurt" a choice by subtracting 10 from its score.

"Heal" a choice by adding 5 to its score.

(You must do both of these in each turn)

Rules:

You may only "Hurt and Heal" once each day.

Once a choice reaches 0, it is gone. You may not re-add it to the list. Let it die an honorable death. :-)

The posted scoreboard comprises the only options. You may not add new options. Discussion will be held before each edition of (+/-); discuss choices there.

If someone "beats you" in posting, change your scoreboard to reflect the change. Be courteous.

Keep it on topic. You can talk briefly about how you chose what to hurt and heal, but take any off topic threads to .

Also, if you have any ideas for the theme for the next Hurt & Heal, post them underneath your scoreboard. That'll make prep for the next one easier.

Everyone clear? All right!

The theme for this Hurt and Heal Game is...

Best Invention!

Here's the starting scoreboard, presented in alphabetical order and assembled after very little thought and careless consideration. Well, maybe not completely careless. I've tried to leave out the basic Simple Machines (screw, wheel, pulley, lever) as those are so basic. These are slightly higher-level inventions, the creators/discoverers of which we can get pretty close to identifying.

As you're voting, please include a reasoning for why you're voting the way you are. Sure, it may seem self-evident to you; but maybe not to everyone! It's obvious that everything on this list revolutionized the world in one way or another. Try to make clear why you think your invention did so more than the others.

Let's do this thing!

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Think where we'd be without antibiotics?

And a toilet can be a hole in the ground (eew), it doesn't have to be a ceramic pot attached to a pump and sewage outlet...

Hmm, can electricity be classed as an invention considering it is a natural phenomenon? Rather, the devices used to harness and utilise electricity are the true inventions.

Whoa, R3VENGE, what happened to...

Rules:

You may only "Hurt and Heal" once each day.

...?

Four minutes...?!

I have also amended my vote scoreboard to reflect R3VENGE's recent omissions.

For record's sake, here's the current one...

Same thing with Antibiotics, really. You're right. But "best discoveries and inventions" was too long for the subject line, once we get the winner up there. :-)

Computers are an interesting invention, without them I know I wouldn't have met or talked to loads of people.

We've never had a television so if they all got blown up I doubt I'd miss it.

I'm with Myrddin & Ash on the electricity front, it's a discovery, maybe that'd be a good theme for another time?

*sigh* Anyway, thank you for letting me vent...

In other news: The printing press has set the stage for every scientific and cultural advance since its inception. That's why it gets my vote. :-)

Please note that Printing Press should be up to 60. I healed it with my vote today, as did David. When Myrddin scrubbed R3VENGE's duplicate, he nixed my vote as well. :P

Hurt: Printing Press. Why when you have computers?
Hurt: Pump I have never used it....

Umm...yeah, so...there would be no computer without a printing press. In fact, we'd probably still be stuck in the 1700s. Oh, and jerkfight - if you drank any drink, took a shower, washed dishes, filled up a gas tank, put out a fire, flushed a toilet...then yeah, you've used a pump. :-P

Can't. Stop. Laughing.

Send help.

That's kind of what I was thinking...:-)
