Dogger
I suggest adding a setting that allows a layer to be locked so it cannot be edited. This could be used to prevent accidental changes to original images or finished layers that need to be seen, but not touched.
Shadow_n
like in flash... i like the idea, exspecialy coz i sometimes get confused as to what layer in editing then it screws everything up

barkbark00
Me thinks being able to lock transparency would be even better! Quote  Take responsibility for your own intelligence. -Rick Brewster
Rick Brewster
This won't be possible until Paint.NET v4.0+ Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
Dogger
I was using an image as a template for a drawing. When I turned off visibility to check my work, the original image became the active layer, and remained that way when I restored visibility to my drawing. Of course, I restored my image with Undo, but I lost a lot of work. So, looking forward to Version 4.0+.

It will help you to recognise your layers much quicker when switching back and forth, which, apart from cutting confusion, will save time also. And make your Layers window look oh-so pretty .So, looking forward to Version 4.0+.Name one person who isn't... You are not the only one doing that. If you use an image as a template for a drawing; try to make the image a bit transparent. Just so transparent that you notice it on your new line, when you start drawing in the wrong layer. But I am FOR lockable layers. Dogger
Thanks, Lief. That is a truly excellent tip. With transparency at 100, any line I draw on the wrong layer is so dim, it alerts me immediately. And the dimmer template allows me to see my work more clearly while drawing.
