OmgWtfBbq Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Just reformatted comp recently, got PDN today and I noticed that the effects menu looks pretty sparse...? I thought there were more effects in there by default then what I've got? Or was that an older version? Quote
david.atwell Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Many effects have been moved to sub-menus. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Sozo Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Many effects have been moved to sub-menus. I don't feel like it's over-organized yet, though. Quote
OmgWtfBbq Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Yes I realise this, but I'd swear that last time I installed PDN there were twice as many default effects. Quote

Simon Brown Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Yes I realise this, but I'd swear that last time I installed PDN there were twice as many default effects. It just looks like less when they are organised. Quote
david.atwell Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Also, many old plugins (for 3.10 back) have been blocked from loading because they don't work with 3.2x. Andrew D Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 For the sake of it: http://blog.getpaint.net/2008/02/17/pai ... 0-preview/ A first glimpse of what we're getting in 3.3x. Mainly more PNG, TGA, BMP support, and some Ed-Effects Quote
DarkShock Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I'm glad that the effects got put into sub-menus because one long list of effects is annoying. The render and distort menu are getting too big though. (due to plug-ins of coarse) Quote ---- Gallery | Sig Tutorial | deviantART | Sig Videos | PhotoBucket ----D E S T I N Y

Simon Brown Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 The render and distort menu are getting too big though. (due to plug-ins of coarse) Maybe we should create two render sub-categories and encourage render plugin authors to use them. I can't remember whether you can put plugins in sub-sub menus. Quote
pyrochild Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 No, you can't. I've requested that at some point in the past, but Rick ignored me Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
jchunn Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 The render and distort menu are getting too big though. (due to plug-ins of coarse) We'll just stop writing Renders and Distortions, then I have been thinking about just putting all of the plugins that I write in my own menu, like "effects->jchunn", just so people wont have so many plugins cluttering up the render menu. There are only a few people writing plugins... so even if everyone did that, it would only add 5 or 10 items to the main effects menu, and then you could just jump to "madjik" or "boltbait" or whatever, and just see their plugins. I don't know about everyone else... but that is the way I would rather see it. Ideally, in a future version of PDN, it would be nice if the user could organize their plugins themselves, kinda like the favorites menu in IE. Quote Total hack.

I disagree. Strongly. People (most) don't want their effects organized based on who wrote them. They probably usually don't even care who wrote them. The proper way for them to be organized is by what they do, at least until users get the ability to move them around at will. IIRC, that functionality was originally slated to be part of the 3.2x series, but I think that has been pushed back to 4.x. Mike Ryan Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Dont put your plugins underneath your name. It is the sole reason I do not use the Asmegeddon Plugin Pack, because it is not organized. Quote

OmgWtfBbq Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Hmmm found all my plugins. Pyros, Bolts, Madjiks and Eds. Why don't some of them work? Compatibility issues? Quote
david.atwell Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Exactly. The 3.2x series has introduced a slightly different Plugins API which rendered some older plugins unusable - that is, until the author updates them for the new system.
