Sig-Of-The-Week #13 - Polar Inversion *aile wins!*

Recommended Posts

This weeks theme, as chosen by last weeks winner cjmcguinness, is Polar Inversion.

The Winners:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Woot! A huge "Thank You" to everyone who voted! We had 31 individual voters with a total of 53 votes cast! Y'know what this means? We have real first, second, and third place winners with no ties!

So, now I'm sure you all want to know the results. Well:

1st: aile (17 votes (32%))

2nd: olav.k.m (7 votes)

3rd: usedHONDA (5 votes)

Honorary "Good-Sport" Award: BoltBait

( Nominated by oma )

As you can see, most people flocked to aile's entry (myself included). There were two others with four votes each, TheVoid and IntelMan, along with many others who won over a voter or two. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone who participated. You're the ones who make these competitions great!

Also, a big thanks to david.atwell for assisting in the competition management duties for this one.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Alrighty, happy people, it's voting time again! Because there are so many entries, you are allowed to vote for up to two people! Both votes carry the same weight, so you needn't label first or second in your submitted ballot. See the amalgamated submission list below.

Voting will be open until 23:59 (11:59pm) (PST) on Thursday, January 17th.

To see the current time in PST to compare it with your local time, click here (WorldTimeServer.com).

New for this comp, check the Voting Guidelines!

------------------------------------------------------------------

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] To vote, compose a Private Message to Crazy Man Dan with the name of the person you'd like to win.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] Voting is open to everyone, entrants and non-entrants alike.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] If you did enter the competition, please do not vote for yourself.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] Once you have submitted your vote, it is final and cannot be changed by any power known to man.
[*:2i8yi5ru] Note that, as this competition allows for multiple votes, you are permitted to send in an auxiliary ballot if you accidentally exclude a vote from your original.

Polar inversion creates a very interesting effect with very little effort, and because of this, those new to graphic design have a tendency to overuse it. Because of this, the effect is often looked down upon. Some, however, pioneer new ways of thinking about polar inversion, seeing it as not a means to a quick "abstract", but as a key to their creativity. That is your mission this week - impress those Polar Inversion Intrepids with your creative Polar Inversion application. If you have any questions, or you wish to comment on an entry, then the discussion thread is where you'll want to be.

The deadline for this competition is 23:59 (11:59pm) (PST) on Sunday, January 13th.

To see the current time in PST to compare it with your local time, click here (WorldTimeServer.com).

Check the SOTW Rules!

If your entry breaks any of the rules it will be disqualified.

------------------------------------------------------------------

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] Max sig dimensions follow the board's max sig dimensions, 500x150.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] No crude / offensive language, pics, et cetera.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] Sig must follow the set theme.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] Only one entry per person and no modifications to your image are allowed after submitting your entry.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] You must post the URLs to any and all stock images used in your sig.

  • [*:2i8yi5ru] You are allowed one post in this topic. That post should include your sig, links to your source images, and, if you feel so inclined, a hearty bowl of soup to keep me warm 'n toasty. Placeholders (empty-posting now, editing in a link to your sig later) are not permitted.

------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is for posting your entries only!

If you wish to talk about one of the entries you can do so here.

If a comment or other non-entry post is mistakenly made in this thread, it will be moved without penalty to the discussion thread. Just don't be surprised when it magically jumps over there.

Good luck all, and thanks for playing! :D

:D ok so I'm happy 90% with this one. Of course I know the downfall will be the font  I totally just am not good at picking them correctly but this is what I've got so far. (PS here I've still the PDN so if anyone can suggest a bette looking one let me know and I'll actually change it for the forum font.

about this #13 week sig of the week. It was sure hard to condense that lovely polar down to this ittty bitty size of a sigandyetanothernewsigintheworksthi-1.png but I like the looks of the flower image .

No source; 100% Paint.NET. Polar Inversion, Twist, recoloring, gradients, transparency...

A veritable tour de force! But I present thee with mine humble entry:

Zap!

zap.png

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

This is mine. I did a lot of polar inversions on a mandlebrot fractal plug-in and then used the water reflection plug-in. It was hard b/c I made 4 different sigs for this and couldn't decide which one to put on here.

After looking through my old Polar Inversion works, I decided instead of trying to re-use one of my old pics, that I would try and remake this wallpaper, which was made using Polar Inversion. This is the picture: Polar Invert Wallpaper

Here is my finished result:

7w7v1p4.png

The only stock image I used for this is the wallpaper I linked above, and was full made by me. Everything in this sig apart from the plug-in's and fonts used are made by me. Estimated time about half an hour, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted when I started.
