BoltBait
Bohemian Rhapsody 10/10 Amazing movie—very emotional. And, of course the music was awesome. I lived through their rise... and seeing behind the scenes was interesting to me. Now, this is a bio pic MOVIE, so they had to compress a 20 year period into a 2 hour movie. So, some compression of the timeline was expected. I had no problem with it, but some of the more dedicated fans wanted a 4 hour movie instead... with a more accurate timeline. They did shuffle a few moments around to make a better movie. And, they combined some characters. And, they left out some events all together. But, the movie did flow well and it left me in tears at the end. All the actors did an amazing job. BTW, at 55, I was probably the youngest person in the theater. 1 Quote Click to play: Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and how about a Computer Dominos Game

lynxster4
Did anyone watch George R. R. Martin's "Nightflyers"? Truly horrifying. Aired on the SyFy channel. It's worth a watch. BoltBait
Watched a bunch of movies this weekend... let's just call it an "Action" weekend... Peppermint - 8/10 Jennifer Garner does a believable job as a woman who extracts revenge for her family's death. The movie reminded me of Jackie Chan's The Foreigner or Charlize Theron's Atomic Blond (only less political). The Equalizer - 7.5/10 Denzel Washington has the skills to help the helpless. (The whole movie, I kept thinking... HitGirl can't take care of this herself?!) The Equalizer 2 - 6.5/10 Not as good as the first, but had some interesting fight scenes. This was more of a revenge movie, I prefer the smaller stories of helping people. Also, finished up BoJack Horsman... I've seen better. Rather depressing stories. Ego Eram Reputo
I've had a bad time with movies lately. Thor (2011): 2/10 Awful. Truly awful. I expected it to be bad, but it must be exceptionally terrible for me to turn it off after less than 15 minutes. Cheesy dialog in the middle of a fight scene had me going "Woah" but the CGI kept me watching. The clincher was the stupid "sassy" dialog from the first London scene. Avoid. Star Trek Generations (1994): 2/10 Another failure. I remembered the TV series with such fondness too. Horrible acting and worse dialog. What were they thinking? Data's manic laughter because of an embedded emotion chip made me cringe. I turned it off when Picard got all blubbery over the death of his brother. Imdb scored it 6.6 which matches my view that anything rated less than 7/10 is not worth the effort. On the upside, Philomena (2013): (8/10) This was surprisingly good. Steve Coogan co-wrote and stars opposite Dame Judy Dench. The script is smart, often funny and at times desperately sad. Based on true events. cornemuse
Last night I watched "Foreign Correspondent", a 1940 (yes, very old!) Alfred Hitchcock movie. Movies of that era generally were 'cookie-cutter' flics, this one is most excellent for the era!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Correspondent_(film) Quote 'Where's my plinth?' Well, I get what you are saying, and I grew up on TNG. If you remember, at one point, Data experimented with the emotion chip, and it ultimately backfired. As for Picard, try to understand that Picard and his brother had a tense relationship until Picard returned to France to recuperate after being assimilated by the Borg, and it was the first time Picard broke down, showing that Picard was a human, after all. It was more the death of his nephew that hit him the hardest. I think that Picard viewed his nephew as a son he would never have. If there is one major gripe I had TNG, it was the writers trying to push the Worf-Tori relationship. I think they eventually canned it because it didn't match the strong chemistry between Riker and Tori. The worst Star Trek movie? Nemesis. That was gawd-awful. Insurrection is also right there. Terrible, terrible storyline and acting. Also your comment on Thor...I don't completely agree with your assessment. I thought it was breathtaking and showed a reimagination of the Asgardians. Right now, I am definitely have a Marvel movies fatigue. It is becoming harder and harder to keep me interested in what I want watch because so many movies are utter bloody potato. Hollywood has lost the ability at creative storyline. Now, Hollywood, er, Disney are recreating all their classic movies with live action, and I hate it. It is like they are deliberately trying to ruin my childhood. LionsDragon
Best part of Generations: Data singing "Life Forms" while Riker looks like he's flipped a circuit. Come to think of it, that's the only scene I really remember (and I am a Trekker from WAY back).
BoltBait
Took my kids, on Christmas day, to see... Ralph Breaks the Internet - 8/10 I was really impressed that Disney got all the Princesses together for one scene and had them all voiced by their original actors (when possible). And, they were making fun of the individual stereotypes. Well done! It included a great cast of other characters too. (Could I love Alan Tudyk and Gal Gadot any more than I already do? I don't think so!) The movie was funny and really paid homage to everything the Internet has to offer... (yes, even the dark web). BoltBait
Bad Times and the El Royale 8/10 A great thriller with an all-star cast. From moment to moment, I had no idea what was going to happen. Although Tarantino was not involved, the movie definitely had a Tarantino vibe to it. Mission: Impossible - Fallout 6/10 These are just getting old now. OK, we get it: Tom Cruise can do his own stunts. TrevorOutlaw
Mary Poppins Returns... Give it a 9/10. First time in a long time I went to the theater and actually enjoyed the movie. The opening act was a bit slow but began to pick up. If anyone remember the original Mary Poppins, the acts are very similar with some notable exceptions. Instead of chimney sweepers, there were the lamp lighters (back when there were men who were paid to turn on and off the lamps before electricity made them obsolete), there was one comical boom from Admiral Boom, but what really set apart Mary Poppins Returns is the animation. It was vintage Disney animation, none of those anime-influence bloody potato that have infected cartoons since the millennium began. Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins was sharp, full of wit, but with a bit of humanity that differed from Julie Andrews' Marry Poppins who was more sharp tongued, no-nonsense, and almost monotonous. Dick Van Dyke makes his cameo in the closing act, and Angela Lansbury, aka Murder, She Wrote, made a special appearance. Zagna
Battle Angel Alita. 10/10. To me it's similar to Watchmen in how it adapts the first 12 or so chapters of Gunnm (checked my volumes after 😛). There's enough chapters for maybe as many as 3 sequels. Well made CGI, beautifully portrayed Panzer Kunst and it didn't bore me at any point.
Maximilian
I've just watched A Quiet Place and found it pleasingly appealing. I'm going to give it a 9/10 (I would have liked to have been informed of where the evil creatures come from, but I won't complain much about it. I assume they may be zombie aliens of some kind, just maybe )
Ego Eram Reputo
I checked out A Star Is Born last night. I'd give it 5/10. Bradley Cooper's character Jackson Maine was unintelligible most of the time. Maybe that was why I didn't warm to him. After this performance I can't quite believe he voices Rocket Raccoon in GOTG. The word that did come through his mumbling clearly was the F word. It was used so often it lost any kind of shock value and became VERY tedious. Lady Gaga was good. She blasted out one song which gave me goosebumps but the rest were bland. With the exception of Sam Elliott the rest of the cast were largely anonymous. It was overlong at 130 minutes. By the end we didn't care about either of the leads and just wanted it to finish. I had posted the above before actually seeing Green Book. Well, I watched it last night and here are my thoughts... Yup. Should have been Bohemian Rhapsody. Green Book 7.5/10 It was a good, solid movie, well acted and well filmed. Recreating the time period was done well. The main problem is that the story is nothing new--a white man and a black man are thrust together and must learn to respect each other. Most of the scenes are based around the difference of worlds these 2 men live in. The best line of the movie was delivered by Tony Lip's wife in the final scene of the movie. BoltBait
Spider-Man: into the Spiderverse 8/10 Great film. Def deserved the Oscar this year. Voice actors perfectly cast. I was presently surprised with some of their choices. I really enjoyed the way it was filmed—it really reminded me of reading a comic book (but, not over done). i really hope they’re able to make a sequel. As opposed to... A.I. Rising 4/10 Basically... porn. Poorly written. Poorly acted. I kept hoping they would cover some interesting material... but, mostly the movie seemed to be an excuse to film a naked woman. And, she was naked throughout most of the movie. Lots of plot lot holes and scientific inaccuracies. So, why 4/10? Well, she is really nice to look at. Ego Eram Reputo
Seen Ex Machina? I wondered how it compared as I watched Ex M very recently. To be honest I liked Ex M a lot. It had great special effects and a story interesting enough to keep my attention. Yes there was some nakedness, but it wasn't gratuitous. Alicia Vikander was superb as the AI. She was quite beautiful in chrome and that occasional little twitch of the head was clever. Domhnall Gleason was great as the (un)lucky programmer. I didn't really like the eccentric genius played by Oscar Isaac. He came off as someone not to be trusted. BoltBait
I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Ex Machina before. I watched it in theater when it came out. Brilliant film. 9/10 It had an interesting take on the Touring Test. I actually liked all of the characters. Oscar Isaac was believable as the eccentric, brilliant, over confident company owner. I’ve met these types before. Quote Click to play: Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and how about a Computer Dominos Game
BoltBait
Crazy Rich Asians 6/10 Typical, predictable rom-com. The flaunting of wealth was over-the-top sickening. There was one really good scene (Rachel Chu telling off Eleanor Young at the end), but that's about it.
