Toli's Effects (v2.0.2, 20 Jan. 2008)

Recommended Posts

And... ugh... why did you have to remind me of the debacle that was Render Human?

One thing though. MediaFile lost it :)

Can someone PM me it or put it up on here? I want to see what it was like :D

Actually, MediaFire didn't lose that one. I deleted it. On purpose. For a reason. The same reason I asked CMD to lock the topic.

Whew! Finally I got some time to update my plugins.

Changes:

1. Now they are licensed under the GNU Public License.

2. Minor compatibility changes with Paint.NET v.3.20

3. Fixed bug when limited user's preferences were not saved (only an Administrator can write in Program Files). Now the preferences are saved in a different Ini File (ToliEffects.ini located in {LocalApplicationData}\Paint.NET\). The Language Ini Files are still kept in {ProgramFiles}\Paint.NET\Effects\, since they are read-only.

4. Fixed possible future compatibility issue regarding unapropriate use of PdnResources class.

5. Engrave / Emboss is now in /Effects/Stylize submenu.

6. Setup has now an option to choose which effects to install.

7. Added MirrorRotateMenu.dll plugin.

MirrorRotateMenu is not a new plugin. It is the same MirrorRotate plugin, with a different interface: instead of the unusual looking GUI, it has 7 menus inside a Mirror / Rotate submenu.

They have no GUI whatsoever. There is simply one menu (one click) for each mirror or rotate effect.

YOU shall decide which of them is easier to use and best suits YOUR needs.

Hi, Toli

I've got one bug report and one contribution for your plugins:

1) Bug report: If Paint.Net is running in localized mode, Mirror / Rotate Menu doesn't default to English, in case it misses translation strings for current language. Menu appears blank. That's the case for Portuguese, for instance. See screenshot:

mirrorrotateuv5.th.png

2) Contribution: I've translated your plugins to Portuguese. You can include this in next build if you want.

;Engrave / Emboss

PluginName=Criar Entalhe / Relevo
HeaderLabelStyle=Estilo
ButtonEngrave=&Entalhe
ButtonEmboss=&Relevo

Thank you (Obrigado) for your contribution, which will be soon included

and for the bug report, which will be soon fixed, because it really is an easy fix.

I submitted ToliEffects version 2.02.

Why?

- One localization bug fixed

- Portuguese translation added

(thanks to "gege")

Note: Translations of my plugins into other languages will also be appreciated. Just take a look at "gege's" work and do the same and I'll promptly include it too. (I already provided English, French and German)

I tried out your effects.

The vertical flip button flips horizontal. The horizontal flips vertical.

I am not really certain what the 1st and second diagonal do.

I think you also need to rename a button 90 CCW(counter clockwise).

Just like they doing in photoshop transform.

I had read such good reports on this plugin and now I am disappointed :( .

I edited the ini files and made it a bit better for me.

now the buttons do what they say.

But I still would like Horizontial flip button to come before

vertical flip button.

I prefer the order of the buttons to be.

None

Horizontial flip button

Vertical flip button.

Rotate 90 CW button.

Rotate 90 CCW button.

Rotate 180 button.

1st diagonal

2nd diagonal

same thing for the mirror/rotate menu

Sorry, but you were wrong...

The buttons always did what they said.

You must understand that:

Horizontal Mirror = Vertical Flip

Vertical Mirror = Horizantal Flip

I never used and I will never use the word "flip" anywhere in my plugins, because of this possible ambiguity.

The First and Second Diagonal Mirrors do just this: A mirror (geometrical transformation) on the respective diagonal...

I really, cannot care less about what photoshop or other software does. Whoever likes that software may buy it. I will not.

I am sure that, if you think for a few seconds, you will understand this equivalence.

It's so simple: If you place a real mirror horizontally, the image will be flipped vertically, isn't it?

And as the order of the buttons / menus, it is the natural order of the geometric transformations as in their abstract algebraic structure, the geometric transformations group.

And your proposed order makes very little sense, because you separated the mirrors from the rotations, which should be kept toghether because they are similar geometric transformations. (the rotations keep the image intact, the mirrors convert it into its enantiomer, isn't it so?)

If you do not fully understand me, I reccommend searching the unknown terms in Wikipedia

The Author.

I decided to make a separate post about all my effects and make some changes in order to be able to easily maintain them.

The effects are:

1. Mirror / Rotate

2. Mirror / Rotate Menu

3. Engrave / Emboss

4. Smooth

The links are for you to read the discussion about these effects, if you are interested.

However, you cannot download the effects from there any more. The only place from where you can download the effects is from below:

post-44714-127042033651_thumb.png1. IniFile.dll[/b]

This is a common required library, used by all my effects, which must be copied in the Effects folder if you want to use any or all the effects.

This library provides to my effects localization support (the effect in your language) and the ability to "remember" on-screen position and the options you selected.

Effect programmers, feel free to use IniFile.dll (ask me for technical support). Just don't credit yourselves for coding it.

2. MirrorRotate.dll

The Mirror / Rotate Effect

3. MirrorRotateMenu.dll

All 4 mirrors and 3 rotates from the previous plugin, now as MenuItems in a Mirror / Rotate Submenu

You should install either MirrorRotate.dll or MirrorRotateMenu.dll

4. EngraveEmboss.dll

The Engrave / Emboss Effect

5. Smooth.dll

The Smooth Effect

6. MirrorRotate.ini

7. MirrorRotateMenu.ini

8. EngraveEmboss.ini

9. Smooth.ini

Language Ini Files used by my effects for localization.

You should copy them along with the corresponding effects to the Effects folder.

(this folder should usually be: "C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects", without the quotes)

10. License.txt

GNU Public License

If someone would like a Setup (an Installer for the plugins), here it is:

1. It should be easy to guess that actually there is no problem at all, since no one else is complaining.

2. The error messages are quite direct in telling you that you FORGOT to copy the library file IniFile.dll in the Effects directory, where the other files that reference it are located.

3. So, just copy IniFile.dll (provided by me alongside with the other files) in your Paint.NET Effects directory. That's all.

(by the way, I clearly stated this is mandatory... just read the large post you quoted yourself as if you read it)

I'm having problems installing. It's not giving me the *.dll files but CS files instead. I know this is an ooold post, so I hope someone replies lol

Btw, nice plugin--I've been looking for a better emboss/engrave. No offense to PdN, but theirs is rather weak

*edit* I read your other post and you seem to very...reluctant...to questions/criticism etc. Even from Rick! So if you can answer without treating me like I'm an idiot, please, go ahead, but don't treat me like I'm an idiot (like you did to others who asked questions). Pride comes before the fall, please remember that. If you keep being snobby about it, nobody's going to give a darn about anything you do.

.ryan., it sounds like you are downloading the source code instead of the actually effects. If you look at the first post there are actually 3 .zip files. You want to download the first .zip there. Hope this helps.

You have downloaded the source files instead of the ZIPped *.dll files.

Revisit the first post in this thread and click on the first link in that post.

@ryan: You are not an idiot.

It is normal to get confused because you are not a programmer.

So, do what you are better at: Happy paint(.NET)int!

Anyway, some other questions (not yours) were in fact idiotic...

No Offense Toli & Pyro, but feel like a kid over-hearing adults, does the (awesome sounding) plugin work after all in PDN 4.0? Is it a simple cretin install for 'vacuum for brains' people like myself? Or do I need go back to school, discover how to manipulate the known universe to install? Shh! For sure you going to say go back to school... I'd just been following Welshblues lead on Glossy effect https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/26860-glossy-metallic-text/ and seem to have wondered into a discussion between Newton/Einstein that has left me very non-plussed as to continue or not. Thanks

After I waded through all the innuendo I couldn't really  understand what you were asking.

I'll assume you are not sure how to 'install' the Plugin?   See here how to do that.

Nope. I say: Keep calm and be careful with your words.

Hey Andrew, Thank you for your help.

Hello Pixie & Iron, thank you for answering. Allow me to put an end to your incorrect understanding - I was belittling myself & acknowledging my own lack of expertise. You needn't feel my insulting myself is in anyway a reflection on or meant for you. There wasn't innuendo at all, you guys are absolute masters, which is why I mentioned 'listening to the two clever people from our history' because I'd read the go in here, change this to that, copy this & alter that, then it would work (Trinity's post) - which I'd hesitate to do due to my inexperience but had still wanted to use Toli's effect. It was never my intention to slight any of you. I'm really in awe of the gifts people display in the forums. It looks as if you thought I was being nasty to someone. Perhaps you are unused to finding honest people championing you & blaming themselves for their own inadequacies, that you were under the impression I was being unkind to Toli. I hope you are both satisfied on my intent & mindset now and can accept my explanation as being genuine.

Hi Toli, thank you for not getting upset & also quietly chastising me. I meant what I'd said, it reads as an awesome extension & I hope that I'll have the grey matter to make use of it & others' writers (Pyros') effects.

As much as I'd love to get the most out of Paint.net, I don't really have the time for the learning curve. I've a 'sort of' ability to use in a simple manner but it is not my industry, so battle now & then, when I need it. Like now, I need create something beyond my immature grasp which impresses as professional. So must find out how to get the desired result & do it within my own time constraints. All the best to everyone.
