Helio
viewforum.php?f=15 That's it! Just keep going through and trying some of them, and you'll pick it up. You're gonna give me a big head... :-) Helio is correct. The tutorials (for the most part) exist not to show you how to make a specific image, but basic skills, tips, and tricks that will allow you to make things that blow our minds. :-) By the way, Helio is pretty good, himself. I'd add about twenty other names to your list before I added mine :-) And you should keep an eye on Ash ( 0-Ash-0.deviantart.com , I believe) if you really want to be amazed. Next to him, I'm an uber-n00b. :-) Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. usedHONDA
http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewforum.php?f=15That's it! Just keep going through and trying some of them, and you'll pick it up. I don't read them... >_> But for people that haven't learned all of Paint.NET's capabilities, it is highly recommended to read as many tutorials as possible. There really isn't any other way to "master" Paint.NET except for trying different types of image editing such as signatures made with no source images, basic image touch up like Curves and Levels, and abstract art (what BoltBait calls "ashtrays") created out of experimentation and trial-and-error. barkbark00
...i want to know how to become a pro, like barkbark or usedhonda or david atwell... Hey, don't 'pros' get paid?!? Anyway, thanks for the mention. I think that I learned the most by trying to emulate stuff that people did using higher-end programs (i.e., Photishop, Gimp). It was nice for a little while (back in the day ) when it seemed that I was one of those guys, pushing PdN to the limits. Now we have members like CJ, Ash, Drakaan, Ben_R_R.....list goes on...all doing great things around here. I guess my advice would be, don't limit yourself to stuff that has already been done(in PdN) ... Look at the real(err, paid) 'pros' to find inspiration. emkay
After reading all the above, it seems that I am in the same quandry.. There appears to be no "basic" tutorial anywhere. "playing around for a few months" does not help the frustration level of not being able to do hardly anything when you do not understand the basics. Microsoft Paint is about the only experience I have had! PDN obviously has mountains of advantages over MS Paint, but I can't seem to get going. I would like to just design some business cards to start! Does PDN work like sheets of acetate (layers) and then you compress them all together to get your final image?, in fact how do you compress them all when you are finished, is this flatten? Perhaps an analogy; driving a car along at 30 mph is basic, driving at 70 while manipulating all the accessories, such as climate control,cd player, gps, dvd player, delay wipers, speed control, etc, etc, etc, is not the same thing. I think Bevio, myself, and perhaps others could use a good "once again" basic tutorial on " what PDN does and how it basically works... I have read until I'm blue in the face, but have not learned what I need. Thanks for any advice to all of us fuzzy faced rookies.
david.atwell
The problem is that there are far, far too many different applications for Paint.NET. What do you want to do? How do you want it to look? There's so many different things you can make this program do, a basic tutorial would help very few people. Myrddin
Does PDN work like sheets of acetate (layers) and then you compress them all together to get your final image?, in fact how do you compress them all when you are finished, is this flatten? Yes on both counts; see, you do know what to do. You can find Flatten under Image > Flatten, alternatively using the key combination Ctrl + Shift + F. It is always good practice to save two copies of your work: one flattened image; and one .pdn layered image, so if you need to edit a certain element of your picture it will be much easier to do so. Also, have you tried the help files? These show the basics of everything that is Paint.NET, from hints and tips, to small features you may not know of, all the way to keyboard shortcuts, etc., even the basics about layers. Try them if you haven't, you can access them via F1 whilst in Paint.NET and with an active Internet connection. Ash
what PDN does and how it basically works... 1.Read everything here 1st. http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/en/index.html (Like what Myrddin said above) 2.Download as many plugins as you can, Try them all to see what they can do. 3.Then try some tuts, here are a few that helped me understand PDN the most early on: Fading / Blending: Gradient tool on a Camaro picture How to start a fire with Paint.NET Don't forget to try some of my tuts  I believe the Eye tut is easiest, and Anyone can do it! Full list & links to all my tuts and useful plugins on my googlepage. And remember to always ask questions in the forums. Many are able and willing to help. I have only used MSpaint before Paint.NET also.. So just keep trying! ============================================================================================ Thanks for the props guys Quote All creations Ash + Paint.NET [ Googlepage | deviantArt | Club PDN | PDN Fan ]
emkay
Thank you for your response Mr. Atwell. I can honestly say that because of the immense capabilities of PDN I can't know what I want, or how it should look, until I have basic skills to expand upon. My driving analogy could be taken to the next level by saying that neither of us would be allowed to jump in one of 'your Indianapolis 500 or Formula One race cars without having some 'basic skills and knowledge. I guess we all must crawl, walk, then run at our own pace. Thank you for your response as well Mr. Myrddin. Eureka! I did not know there were help files with tips, tricks, and features. I will certainly read this material in order to better understand the more advanced tutorials written by Atwell et.al. Thanks again to you both.. Edit: I just noticed the response by Ash, thank you. I will definitely read the materials you suggested if it will help me to achieve the same level of competence that you have, some day. I was beginning to think "to make a picture takes a thousand steps". Thanks to all...
