Mike Ryan
Well, I have decided that Windows 7 is much better at recognizing my handwriting in comparison to Vista. That makes me happy!

Crazy Man Dan
One Window GIMP tastes good:... It has made the GIMP far more manageable on the Task Bar as I can be a bit window-happy. From a taskbar standpoint, yes, I agree it's a great step forward. From a functionality standpoint, it still has a little way to go. Right now, even if the windows are hinted as Utility Window, they don't disappear when the main window is minimized. Take Paint.NET, where if you drag one of the panes outsize the parent window, then minimize the parent, it disappears too - GIMP doesn't do that. Since they're Utility Windows now, though, they don't have minimize buttons of their own, so they're stuck there, in the way. They do go away when you [Command]+D to show the desktop, but as soon as you click on the taskbar buttons for one of your open applications - any application, from Azureus to Zune Media Manager - they come right back, in the way. So yeah, it's a move in the right direction, but they still have some work to do as far as usability on the Windows platform. At least, this is how it happens on XP. Does it work properly on Vista? Myrddin
Does it work properly on Vista? After digesting your observations, I'll have to answer that with a partial 'yes'.Right now, even if the windows are hinted as Utility Window, they don't disappear when the main window is minimized. They do with me. On the flip side... ...but as soon as you click on the taskbar buttons for one of your open applications - any application, from Azureus to Zune Media Manager - they come right back, in the way....this does happen to me also, but only when the application being brought into focus is resized such that the location of the GIMP windows are in view. Firefox, for me, is fully maximised, therefore I do not see this, however the Downloads window of Firefox is rather small, therefore I do experience this anomaly as you do.Another 'bug' which could do with ironing out is the new 'empty image window' is constantly underneath the toolboxes - unless this is the desired behaviour. Whilst I can see benefits to this, I also see more downfalls to this approach. It would not be so bad, preferable even, if it employed something akin to Paint.NET's translucency to its toolboxes. I suppose I'm wishing to have my cake and eat it: one window GIMP with the focus behaviour of the multiple window GIMP. Although, I am a walking contradiction most of the time, so I see no reason why I can't be here as well. Even though I have said this in the past (somewhere I must have), the 'new' UI is clawing me into learning the GIMP more thoroughly. Although, I've already hit one snag that makes me pine for Paint.NET, that is I can't immediately discover a way to create an arrow-tipped line. Consult the Help Files I must! Crazy Man Dan
Another 'bug' which could do with ironing out is the new 'empty image window' is constantly underneath the toolboxes - unless this is the desired behaviour. Whilst I can see benefits to this, I also see more downfalls to this approach. Yeah, this bugged the heck out of me as well. It is actually the desired behavior, but it can get in the way. I ended up changing the window hinting back to "Normal Window". They all appear in the taskbar again, but they swap foreground with the working window again, they have minimize buttons again - basically just the way it was before. If you want to do it too, it's under Edit -> Preferences, then Window Management in the side list. The boxes up at the top change the window hinting. Although, I've already hit one snag that makes me pine for Paint.NET, that is I can't immediately discover a way to create an arrow-tipped line. Consult the Help Files I must! I don't think there is a way, actually. If I need an arrow, I usually use guides to mark out the proportions, then use the vector path tool to poly-draw it out. It's almost perfect apart from the start button which I'm changing. It's more of a personal mod but I will have it available for others to use. Therefore, don't expect much of it since it's a small mod.

eraser18
Last night, I went to a play that my high school put on..."Bye Bye Birdie." One of the leads (Albert Petersen) was played by a very good friend of mine, and he did very well. Yay! The whole play was fantastic, overall, except my band director, who was supposed to conduct the pit, has pneumonia, so he wasn't there. Sad. Also, the two trumpeters in the pit were from the community band I play in, so I was a little surprised to see them there. It was a great night Quote |Eraser18's Gallery|
