Crazy Man Dan
Well, this could go either in the Rants thread or this one. Overall, though, I think it's a net-win for me, so I'm putting it here. As you may know, I'm a self-employed independent contractor, and I've been doing subcontract work for this company pretty steadily over the past four years. Lately, the owner has been falling further and further behind in actually paying me, all while still expecting me to continue working on his projects - I haven't received a paycheck of any sort in nearly two months, and I still haven't been paid anything from hours I worked all the way back in September. Well, I just served him with a two-week notice. I know what you're thinking: "You're quitting a job in this economy!?" Well, I'm not completely crazy. See, a few months ago I started talking with a friend of mine who was in the same situation and who cared just as much as I did about making sites that didn't suck. We decided to get out from under someone else's thumb and create a business that ran properly and produced sites worthy of putting our names on. So, after months of hard work, may I introduce to you to MindSeed Labs. I can't say I'm not scared out of my pants about the future, but what's the fun in life without a little risk, right? Crimson
...and every time someone clicks on your ad, you get charged a determined amount – in most cased 5 - 10 cents. Just thought I'd point that out. Wish you the best luck with your new business. Crazy Man Dan
Ah, thanks for that. Both of us wrote different sections of the content, but I'm the one with the good grammar, so the proofreading duties fell to me. Whatever you do, don't read this page. It's the only one I haven't corrected yet. Crazy Man Dan
Thank you all for your well-wishes. ^ Ouch. The person who wrote that must've been in a hurry. O: Yeah, we wrote the last bit of the content overnight right before a morning meeting we had with a few local business owners to show it off. BTW, I was looking through your site, and I must say the Functional Galleria is pure Genius Thanks. The "Highlight Box" tab is just about ready to go - I just finished the function class the other night. 007 Nab
Ah, good to know. I was thinking - you might want to add a link to it in your sig - so that if visitors to the forum see some of your expertise and think "I wonder if I can use this guy" they know where to go Quote "pyrochild, you're my favorite person ever. Mike Ryan
Man, am I happy! I just downloaded the leaked copy of the Opera 10.5 prealpha. Upon loading, I immediately saw how my custom theme didn't load properly in Opera, and loved it! As well, the new features are pretty awesome. If you ever thought you had seen a bare-bones browser, look no further.

Crimson
omg. pentool is so awesome, i can't believe i never learnt it before Now i'm rendering my own stuff I actually found the learning curve for the Pen tool to be pretty small. I don't understand why so many people complain about it. Yes, I said that just so I could make a pun. Crazy Man Dan
I love the Pen tool, I just hate the way the Adobe products handle node editing. That's why, even when I was in graphics classes that had access to Adobe Illustrator, I'd bring in my own laptop so I could use Inkscape. Kemaru
I prefer Inkscape, too. It's faster, Illustrator takes a lot of time to use. Mike Ryan
The official Developer's Preview of Opera 10.5 came out today and this build includes Carakan, their newly developed Javascript engine. This new engine is only beaten by a nightly Chromium build, and it runs Google Wave. I am really happy.
Crazy Man Dan
I believe I've mentioned previously in passing how my sole dissatisfaction since I moved to Linux was the lack of a native version of Notepad++, as well as my travails with finding an alternative. Well, I've been using Bluefish for the past few months, and It's not really getting any better. I've been able to compensate for the program's deficiencies, but it's both cumbersome and annoying. So, why am I happy today? One word: gedit. I had immediately gone looking for an alternative because I foolishly assumed that the default text editor for GNOME was like the default text editor for Windows: just a text editor. Turns out, not only does it have syntax highlighting for 71 languages, but it has customizable syntax-highlight color schemes, multi-line indent (the ability to select multiple lines at once and tab them all in or out), a built-in file tree browser, a configurable code snippit manager, and, best of all, bracket pair highlighting. Simon Brown
I recently found an editor that supports syntax highlighting, code completion and bracket pair highlighting for HTML, CSS and Javascript (though not PHP) called RadRails.
