The Story of your Username

Well, it is what it says on the label. I think I saw something like this on the old forums, but I can't seem to find it, so it must have got lost in the move... Anyways, I made this because there are many, many usernames on this forum, and I'm sure we'd all like to know the inspiration behind them. I'll start off with mine. It's not all that interesting... Basically, I was in an IT class, making this list of mail-merge addresses, and I was bored, so I started to fill in "joke" names, like "Seymour Butts" and "Anita <Family-friendly forum.>". I randomly made up one called "Bob Ofthedead", and the name somewhat stuck, and now I use it for everything.

Where did your username come from?

My mother gave me one part of it, my father the other part :-)

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Well my email address is shootingstars_wishinghearts but I couldn't use all that here, so it ended up shortened. But I designed a tattoo that is a heart and a star. I always thought stars represented our dreams, goals, wishes. Some people wish on stars more than they pray to their God of choice. Well when you really want something in life, you are wishing with your heart. And you should always keep your dreams close to your heart. I know its cheesy...

Say hi to Yata...

ScreenShot00037.png

Yes, I invented by name from a Yu-Gi-Oh card. When I can't use Yata, I use Yatagratsu, a misspelling of the original name, Yata-Grasu.

DISCLAIMER

I no longer condone the use, or existence, of the above mentioned card game. Now my name simply is unique to me and I no longer think of it as a bird.

When I was around three years old, I was obsessed with killing bugs with bug spray. I couldn't get enough of it! Whenever I or somebody saw a bug, I quickly grabbed a can bug spray and proceeded to do the deed. Because of this, my older sister bestowed upon me the nickname "buzz kill" which is slang for "bug spray."

Flashback!

The year was 2001. Dan Larson was relatively new to this big Internetz of ours, and he needed an email address. One of his friends told him to get a Hotmail account, and so Dan set out to do just that.

You see, Dan had been pretty wacky for some time, and his friends knew him as such. When the time came to enter a username for that Hotmail account, crazymandan was the solution.

"DRAT!" Dan shouted. "'crazymandan' has already been taken!" Several attempts later, Dan finally had his Hotmail handle, crazy_mandan. This name "Crazy-Man Dan" stuck with him, and has become the default name for his web presence wherever it is available.

And so was born Crazy Man Dan - Paint.NET forum member, and all-around cool guy. (And to this day, Crazy Man Dan is still the only PureVolume.com listener to use "All-Around Cool Guy" as one of his tags.)

@Pyro - That reminds me of this. Hehe.

EDIT: It's a lot funnier if you've been following the comic, but I think it stands on its own...

My name comes from the collectable card game Magic: The Gathering.

"Bolt bait" is a slang term for a small annoying creature that despiratley needs to be killed by a Lightning Bolt.

That's me. :D

Fake Edit: Oh, and I collect Lightning Bolt cards... like this one:

The story of my username is extremely simple, boring, and pointless.

It was about five years ago when I first wanted to get an email account, but I didn't know what to choose as a username. Eventually, I just thought of the simplest thing: I'll put my first initials (Andrew Dale) and add my last name to it (Hanberry). So..that's where my email address came from. I don't like to remember a lot of different usernames, so I simply use adhanberry for pretty much everything (except for my Gmail; I LOVE Gmail).

Hi. This is my signature. :)

Rhapsody is a powermetal band from Italy. And I like(d) them very much. Like(d) because they never perform live (in Holland, only once in 2004 or something). The music has changed to, a littlebit less power metal. And ofcourse I changed (I like the harder stuff more now), but I'm using this username for a long long time.

You'd have to talk to Rick about that. Maybe PM him. Otherwise, I'd say just make a new one :-D

[semi-long story]

Always been interested in the ancient, the myths and the legends of cultures and how they intermingle with others; it's always fascinated me.

Forever liked the game Tomb Raider which had attracted me into Ancient Egypt many, many moons ago and then Stargate SG-1 reinforced that interest among the introduction of other cultures. Upon their latest story arc, the theme of Arthurian Legend was used in which Merlin played a particularly large role in devising and defeating the main antagonists; the omnipotent, physically ascended Ori. So I browsed and researched him on Wiki and there found the origins of this character (again, because the deeper meaning is usually more interesting than what the surface presents).

The character of Myrddin Wyllt was one who was a 'prototype for the modern composite image of Merlin' and as that name is very cool it stuck with this forum and a for a few other purposes, plus, this is the most intriguing line ever:

'Myrddin reportedly prophesied that he himself would die by falling, stabbing and drowning. This was fulfilled when a gang of jeering shepherds drove him off a cliff, where he was impaled on a stake left by fishermen, and died with his head below water.'

As it's Welsh, it's pronounced 'Mir-thin' (according to the Wiki), which most of the Arthurian Legend is believed to be - that is before some bloke took it upon himself to rewrite it, not pointing fingers though *cough*Geoffrey of Monmouth*cough*.

[/semi-long story]

If anybody is remotely interested in the etymology of the name Myrddin (which out of the below links, only a few paragraphs are necessary for the gist of it), here are a few handy interweb sites dedicated to this allusive name:

http://medievalscotland.org/problem/names/myrddin.shtml

http://www.celtnet.org.uk/gods_m/myrddin_wyllt.html - useful parts are the first two paragraphs and the last one, the rest is in-depth detail.

http://www.maryjones.us/jce/merlin.html - brief but detailed history of Merlin and also part of a fantastic site containing copies of who-knows how many manuscripts and written texts from different languages and cultures.

Stephan - Why do you have a pink bow on your head as a child?
