If you haven't noticed, Apple recently introduced a new iPod line. Included in this new iPod line is the iPod Touch. It is very similar to the iPhone, just minus a few features.

I wanted to know which one you guys would rather purchase, and WHY?

BTW, I would rather purchase the iPod Touch. It's obviously cheaper, PLUS you don't have to pay a monthly bill like the iPhone.

One, I'm not an Apple fan. When I think Apple, I think of the constant freezing of the first-generation iMacs in High School while trying to edit my movie in Adobe Premiere, or the constant freezing in Junior High trying to run a CADD program. I also work in an office full of Mac designers. Being a PC guy, I get Mac bloody potato spewing around me all day long (I do however get to pick on them more than my fair share when they have to reboot because their computer is running slowly...).

I much prefer the interface of a different player I've used, one of the higher-profile Sandisk models. This interface seems to be very similar to that of the Creative line of players, and I'm very seriously looking at the Vision M.

Plus I don't like the fact that "MP3 Player" has all but become synonymous with "iPod". There are other players out there that are cheaper and have more features, and darn it I'm going to use one. :)

Wow I must be living under a rock. Never heard of these new iPod lines till I clicked on your links.

I love Apple, and I love my iPod. (I have an older photo model.) It still works and holds a charge, so I'm not in the market, but I'd probably lean towards the nano video or the new classic (oxymoron alert!)

I'm jealous of all the new video models, so that's really what I covet. The touch model is very pretty, but all that screen scares me. It seems like it'd be so easy to scratch. Plus, how do you get internet/wifi access without a monthly subscription fee? Sounds fishy to me -- what's the catch?

Hmm... Tough one to call. iPod Touch or iPhone? In the end I chose iPod Touch. Why? you might ask. Surely the iPod Touch is just a crippled iPhone? I chose the iPod Touch because of that. I don't need a phone. I have a perfectly serviceable mobile phone. I don't need, nay, want to pay hundreds of dollars a month (I recently read that someone paid $500 for a month's service!).

Oh, and @ Dawn: The ipod Nano video sounds interesting, but most half-hour video clips of a decent quality are over 200 mb in size, the video for a song such as Bohemian Rhapsody, a 5 minute clip is over 50 mb, and films can be upwards of a gigabyte is size. There is no point, therefore, in having a video player of 2-8 gigabytes, as it will not be able to hold the large amount of files that the iPod Video et al is bought for. It's an interesting idea, but it'll never work. Plus the fact it looks butt-ugly. I bought the 2nd generation Nano for, among other things, its looks, but this one looks dreadful, reminiscent of Sansa's attempts at an MP3 player. At least the other iPod incarnations, for all their faults, were of a decent design.

BTW, there is one thing windows users can do that Apple can't, anyone care to guess?

The Ipod Touch uses Wi-Fi similar to that of the Zune. All you need is a pplace with Wireless Internet Access, Starbucks, and there you are. Personally I am going to wait for Zune 2 and when a larger harddrive comes out for the Touch then I will make my decision.... I voted for Ipod Touch....

That's because they came out this week. I got an email from Apple advertising them.

iPhone: Personally, I don't like these high tech expensive gadget thingamajiggys. In my opinion all this "revolutionizing the phone industry" stuff is hogwash (I love that word.....) But if you really need a smartphone that you can brag about it's probably a good idea..

I guess the iPod touch is okay, but I don't think it is a good idea to waste hard-earned money on something that offers few core improvements from the previous version. Yeah, widescreen, internet, such and such, but the internet browsing capability is pretty subpar (example: you can't right click), and widescreen really doesn't make too much of an impact.

Really I think that both of them are simply a waste. In a year or two both are going to become obselete and old (if not the former than the latter). But if I had to choose between the two, I'd certainly pick the iPod Touch.

Hey now! I have a Sandisk player. :P

The Sansa E200 series is actually quite nice looking, and feels better in the hand than a Nano (yes, I've used one).

The e130 is pretty ugly, though.
